Reporters hurt at gun press conference From correspondents in Beijing | July 18, 2008[/i]
THREE journalists were hurt when a gun went off at a press conference called by Chinese police to highlight the success of a gun-control campaign.
The press conference in Nanchong in Sichuan province was to publicise the results of a campaign by the city's police to seize illegal weapons, the Beijing News reported.
According to Zheng Chongjun, deputy head of the political division of Nanchong police, some of the reporters asked to take photos of the guns seized, the newspaper reported.
One of the police officials mishandled a homemade weapon, releasing the trigger and dropping it.
It was unclear from the report whether the gun contained bullets or shotgun pellets but it said one journalist needed surgery after being hit in the ankle, crotch, and chest.

I could have sworn guns are illegal in China. How did this happen?????:banghead:

Hi.

My name is Danladi (Dan-Lad-Dee). No disrespect, but I take offense to your comment. I am half Asian, half Black. It's very hard to offend me with racial remarks, but that one kinda hits home with regards to the Chinese culture. I'm sure you mean that it showed how stupid gun-laws are. Or even better how ANYONE can have an ND.

Please feel free to respond. I welcome your response.

My apologies to you danbus, or anyone else I offended. I did not mean to offend anyone. How about, "It only showshow stupid the commies are."? That was actuallymy intent.

I'm pretty sure that the PLA and all the militia, police, and pramilitary groups they have in mainland China know (at least in principle) how to operate firearms. The did say it was some kind of zip gun that was being displayed, so one has to wonder if it ever worked "properly" to start with.

Oh geeze, Rodbender! You smooth things out with the Chinese, now you're going to piss off the communists! ;)

I don't care ifI piss off the communists, the socialists, or the marxists. I just don't like the fact that I didn't think enough about what I wrote. I hate it when I offend someone unintentionally. I meant to reference thecummunist Chinese enslavers, not all Chinese. But I figured I would refer to commies in general in my reply to danbus.

As far as I'm concerned, the commies, the socialists, and the marxistscanshove it where the sun never shines.

Does it matter if it worked properly or not? It was being pointed in the direction of a human being while he was fiddling with it. He's a stupid commie.

I remember something about these "stupid commies" flying the red star/hammer & sickleover Berlin before we got there (not the Chinese, true, but then Chiang Kai-Shek had to go to Formosa/Taiwan because Mao ran him off the mainland)... It is a mistake to underestimate one's adversaries. That and most of us have seen Yank cops in ND episodes. Hardly unique.

I don't underestimate them. Trust me on this one. I know they are notunintelligent. Cops as well as citizens haveND's more than anyone wouldlike. And I know a little about history. The stupid commie statement was merely meant to insult.

I think gun control advocates here in the states need to take note of this and stand down on their activities. Clearly if guns cannot be controlled in a totalitarian environment like China where there has been a complete ban for decades they can never be controlled here.

Think of the vastness of the Chinese internal security apparatus being brought to bare on the issue and being unsuccessful in controlling guns.
