MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - Prince William County Fire Chief Kevin McGee says residents were without reliable 911 emergency service during four periods in the past two months.
McGee says people called 911 and could not get through. He says one disruption was longer than five minutes, but he did not say how long the others were.
McGee told county leaders that the disruptions between May 28 and July 12 occurred after Verizon upgraded the 911 system. Verizon's network receives the 911 calls before they are relayed to the county's public safety communications center, which dispatches emergency personnel.
McGee says Verizon has worked with the county on the glitches and Verizon officials say the problems have been fixed.
Supervisor Maureen Caddigan says Verizon should be held accountable and the board will review Verizon's contract, which expires later this year.
