That is more "good reason" to carry at church; I carried yesterday!
I can't - the church is held in a public school. Best I can do is carry TO church, leave it in the car, and then load back up when church is over... :?

There's a whole lot more to it than Gun Control.
1: The church promotes progressive social work, including advocacy of women and gay rights.
2: "He almost turned angry," she told the newspaper. "He seemed to get angry at that. He said that everything in the Bible contradicts itself if you read it." She also said Adkisson spoke frequently about his parents, who "made him go to church all his life. ... He acted like he was forced to do that."
1: A Church supporting Gay Rights ?

2:I believe this is a direct reflection of how the Theory ofEvolution hasBrainwashed America.
Hitler's Propaganda Minister:

I live in West Tennessee and as far as I know TN state law treats a church no different than a business. I attend a non-denominational church and we have a volunteer security team of which I'm a member. 90% of us carry a firearm and the pastor and assistant pastors know it. During service and any extra gatherings through the week at least 3 of us our own duty and at lest 1 of them is armed. I like to think that if this occurred in my church we could do something to stop it before so many people were injured or killed.

May God help them.

Police: Man shot churchgoers over liberal views

Knoxville's police chief says the man accused of a shooting that killed two people at a Tennessee church targeted the congregation because of its liberal social stance.

b
Chief Sterling Owen IV said Monday that police found a letter in Jim D. Adkisson's car. Owen said Adkisson was apparently frustrated over being out of work and had a "stated hatred of the liberal movement."

Adkisson is charged with first-degree murder. Police say a gunman entered the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church during a children's performance Sunday. No children were hurt.

The church is known for advocating women's and gay rights and founding an American Civil Liberties Union chapter.

This part really got my attention (from the CNN article):
"He indicated also in that letter that he expected to be there shooting people until the police arrived and he fully expected to be killed by the responding police," Owen said.
Props to those who finally overpowered him instead of just running.

A tragedy indeed. Glad to see some folks jumped to it and dog piled this guy before he could do more harm. Too bad so many had to get hit before they could act. Might have been different with an armed body there.

I have recently had conversations with our pastor regarding carry in church. Did not get a no.We do take precautions during our services but they are not sure about arms. The church I go to is in Kansas andthere are debates right now going on regarding making these off limits. I carry anyways;) Why don't people understand that a sign does nothing. Might as well say please don't murder or rob me. DUH !!!!!!

Good news thoughhe did approach me about getting his CCW permit which is a good thing. I am sure after this we will have a descrete meeting with the decons to discuss further security. We do have several retired LEO and active LEO's. I am sure at least one of them carries. My friend Roscoe still come with me;)...........Permission or not.

the pastor of my church is pretty well known nationwide and worldwide for that matter. he does roll with armed escorts. there are people who openly blog and speak ill of him on a regular basis, so i guess he and his staff take his security quite seriously.

Agreed.

If the "letter" is proven to be accurate and from the shooter, it sounds like the lunatic
expected no resistance from those inside the chuch. Is it possible, he thought it would be a "GUN FREE ZONE"?

Also, seems like a good example of why this one(that we see repeated on this forum a lot) is right on the money:

When seconds count, the Police are only minutes away.

Personally, I do not believe that State legislators should be making any laws regarding what security measures can be taken by Churches, synagogues, etc. Each religious establishment should be allowed to decide, for itself, what it allows or not(armed security, carry by worshippers, etc.). Then the members of the congregation can decide, for themselves, individually, whether or not they wish to attend that house of worship. Freedom to choose is what freedom is all about. No choices = no freedom.

if i was a perp and i saw "gun free zone" and i knew there were lots of sheep in there unarmed...i would go to town.

the same can be said about colleges and every other place that is "gun free"

"he didn't expect resistance"....this speaks volumes... gun free zones don't work.

In a case such as this I wonder how much good it would have done if there had been several members carrying. I haven't seenmuch detail but it appears that the fellow walked in with a guitar case and opened it up and immediately began firing. Something like this he could have done a lot of damage before anyone could have returned fire. I applaud the people that did react quickly to save as many as they did and you need to ask yourself if you would have done the same. I wonder i I would have acted so quickly, I would like to think I would have but unless placed in that situation I will never know.

With the comments about it being illegal to carry in churches I will say that it is not illegal in SC as long as you have permission from whoever is in charge. It would certainly seem that this church would not permit carrying due to their liberal views but they did actquickly when needed. A very sad day all around.

In Louisiana it's illegal to carry in a church. When I first got my CC permit this fact amazed me since it was just after a local church had been shot up and 2 people killed. Not that I'm often in churches but I damn well will be carrying when I am.

Did you notice this in the AP update?

"...The shooting follows a December 2007 spree in which a man shot four staff members at a missionary training center near Denver, Colo., killing two, after being told he couldn't spend the night. About 12 hours later and 65 miles away in Colorado Springs, police say the 24-year-old man fatally shot a parishioner at a megachurch and wounded four others before killing himself."

They just forgot that Jeanne Assam shot the bast@$% first. Funny that.
