July 31, 2008 An armed man who was shot by a Long Beach police officer early this morning was an off-duty officer with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Jason Geggie, 26, an LAPD officer for 1 1/2 years, was shot in the arm and torso after he confronted Long Beach police while wielding a firearm, according to statements released by both police departments. Long Beach police had earlier reported Geggie's age as 27.
"It is a very unfortunate set of circumstances, it is one of ours," said one high-ranking LAPD official, who requested anonymity, citing the ongoing investigation by Long Beach officials into the shooting. "We are desperately trying to unravel what happened."
Geggie was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition, Long Beach officials said.
Few details of what led to the face-off between Geggie and the Long Beach officers were released. Long Beach police said they responded about 12:30 a.m. to a 911 call of a man brandishing a firearm and walking on the street near Termino Avenue and Fourth Street.
Police located Geggie in the 200 block of Mira Mar Avenue and one officer opened fire, apparently after the off-duty officer refused to drop his weapon. Geggie, a Long Beach resident, has been charged with "exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a police officer in a threatening manner," Long Beach officials said.
Along with the criminal investigation being conducted by Long Beach detectives, investigators in the LAPD's Internal Affairs Group have launched a personnel investigation into Geggie, who is currently assigned to the deparment's Central Traffic Division.

The Long Beach Report has nothing further but does have some pics of the scene but nothing enlightening:
