1. Welcome to OCDO's Washington forum.
This post is intended to ease your way into a more complete understanding of Open Carry, including how to go about it, legal issues, history, and the fine folks here at OCDO.

The first thing you should be aware of is that this forum is not “public property”. The owners of this site, John Pierce (jpierce) and Mike Stollenwerk (Mike), provide this service at considerable time and expense. So please read their Forum Policy first: http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum1/1.html

2. Why Open Carry? (vs. CC or No C)
There’re some “standard questions” that folks raise with OC consistently. There are many fine responses on the forum. Here are some links to get you started:
http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum6/12053.html
http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum6/7507.html

3. What are these abbreviations?
Here’s a good list: http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum65/13598.html

4. Beware the TROLL
A troll is someone who purposefully posts to stir tension and conflict. They most post and leave (a “fly-by”) or stay and keep stirring the pot until they are completely ignored or banned from the forum. Do not be a troll. Do not call “troll” until you have enough experience to distinguish between poorly phrased newbie questions and a truly corrosive post. DO NOT FEED THE TROLL. Once identified, trolls should be left in the dark. If in doubt, send a Private Message (PM) (left click their username) to either jpierce or Mike.

5. Conflicts with LEO
Well, just don’t have a conflict! I mean be as polite, professional, and LEGAL as you can in the circumstances. There is of course wide variety of opinions here on this topic (and everything else!), so here’s a link for some additional perspective:
WARNING: This is an advanced thread! Strong feelings here!
forum65/13327-2.htmlhttp://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum65/13327-2.html
(This thread is also infamous in OCDO lore.)

6. Conflict with public
Conflict? What conflict? Most of the time there simply isn’t any. There are a vast number of threads along these lines: “OC’d to store, nobody noticed, went home.”
Occasionally folks do notice, and even more rarely they may complain or even call 911. Be calm. Do not get into a confrontation with them. The fact that you are carrying greatly increases the legal risk to you. You also represent all OC advocates and we’d prefer you do so with an appreciation of your responsibilities and the efforts of those who have gone before you.
Sample threads are nearly endless. Check out the Washington forum or go to: http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/recent.html

7. Disagreements on the forum
There are hundreds, even thousands of good posters on this forum. There are a smaller number that are often needlessly confrontational. You’ll have to decide who’s who according to your own tastes. But until you “know” the crowd here better, post softly. Treat each poster as a friend; look for what well intentioned thing they could have meant. If in doubt, don’t reply. If you must reply harshly – do so via PM!

8. Washington Gun Rights Pamphlet
This is a great thing to have when you OC! You can print it out yourself from the link in this thread or you can get a very nice professionally printed version. Just put the question in a post and we’ll track down who has them available at that time.
http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum55/14089.html

9. Digital Voice Records
It is perfectly legal in Washington to record public conversations without notification that you are recording. Non-public conversations require the notification of all participants. A conversation with a uniformed LEO is considered public. A DVR is highly recommended for OC.

10. Do not patronize list
Can be found here:
http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum55/3630.html
Note that there’s also a list of good guys.

11. Know the law
US Constitution, 2[sup]nd[/sup] Amendment: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Washington Constitution, Article 1 Declaration of Rights: SECTION 1 POLITICAL POWER. All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights.

Washington Constitution, Article 1 Declaration of Rights: SECTION 24 RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS: The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men.

On the part about Trolls (#4), unless you're using a software-modified "left-handed" mouse, it's a LEFT click of the username to bring down that list to send a private message, not a Right click.

Jim675 just shoes the caliper of people we have here on OCDO. People that will go out of their way to help others in OC.I have always thought of OCDO as being a really good group of people, and this just confirms what i believe.

I just ran through the links, they seem to work for me. Most are "forum55" since that's WA. Do all of them fail or can you point me to a specific link?
