I'm doing absolutely nothing other than whining about it on the internet and in person. This country ceased to be a functioning democracy a long time ago and nothing I do is going to change it. Sure, its a defeatist attitude, but I also pride myself on being realistic and knowing when to not waste my time. I'll just go on living my life like a typical selfish American, but at least one that understands what's going on, and hope against hope that nothing drastic happens in my lifetime. "Yea, but the children," everyone says... I don't plan on having any. I really wish we had a kissy face emoticon here.

domestic spying has been going on for a very long time and a democrat was in the whitehouse when the FBI was founded and j edgar hoover was director.

i don't agree with the patriot act or the mca but a lot of the critism is rooted in hysteria rather than fact.

fag marriage is not a right or a freedom, and fags can get married w/o the govt's approval. as i've said many times govt should have nothing to do with marriage

Strange to me that the article only mentions Republican presidents and their cronies. Roosevelt (D)was the first one I know of that started taking names in case he wanted to kick their ass later. Nonesense. Voting in a presidential electionis, statistically,one of the least effective things you can do to protect your own freedom, expecially if you live in a solid repub or dem state. Voting in state and local elections, however, is at least an order of magnitude more effective.

But to be really effective, you have to get active and try to influence politicians to do things your way, use the courts to win good battles, and try to influence public opinion to sway elections. Just voting and sending the NRA some money is not very effective.

I don't know anything about the Libertarian candidate, except that a vote for him helps Senator Obooba.

Well, let me say first: I don't care what the effect is on Obama, positive or negative. But to look at your statement, it assumes that libertarians are really disaffected republicans, and do not draw too many democrats. If that's the case, it's the republican party's fault, not mine, and it's because they choose awful candidates like McCain, when the only real "change" candidate was insulted and slapped down by the tired old men who run the party.
