I was going to put this in the general discussion area, but since it is VA related...

Hopefully I don't get too terribly flamed, but I am in a local Richmond band called Alibi. http://www.alibiband.com/

It would be great to see some of my fellow OC'ers at any of the upcoming gigs!

August 9th Rockahock Campground 9PM til 1AM

August 23rd Beef O'Brady's 7PM til 10PM

August 29th Midway Lounge 9:30PM til 1:30AM

Our drummer is a Chesterfield Police Officer. The addresses to the gigs are on the web site. I'd love to see you there!

I am within walking distance of Beef O'Brady's, so ill try and attend the best I can, MAYBE we can turn this into sort of a OC outing or something. Small one for our area, I dont know, just a thought.

Are you able to OC at the venue? I thought you could not OC at any place, that serves alcohol? Have you OC'd there before?

Anyone that can legally own a gun can OC in VA without a permit. Cannot conceal in a place that serves alcohol even with a permit. VA has some stupid laws on this subject.

you probably can CC at the campground venue with a permit as they are not a club or restaurant that regulary serves meals

FYI.....the gig at the campground was in the "Rocks River Roadhouse" at the campground, so CC would not have been an option. I did OC during setup, teardown, and breaks, but had the gun on my amp while we were playing. I haven't come up with a good way to have the gun in the holster (3 o'clock OWB) while playing my bass. I suppose I could go with a SOB holster and the BUG which is somewhat smaller.

Only comment all night was from a woman who was there celebrating her birthday about being able to see my "big gun" At first I took it as an offhand complimetn, then realized she was referring to my sidearm! (Sorry for the sexual inuendo there!!) Other than that, no :what:that I was aware of, and no other comments!

I'd still love to see as many of you as can attend at the next couple gigs! Especially Beef O'Brady's. We're hoping to really pack the place!!

Have you checked with management at Midway. It's been years since I was there but it used to be one of those places you had to sweep up the eyeballs after closing and the bouncers would have gone nuts if anyone came in armed.

Not that it really matters as long as you stay sober, the Sheriffs Dept makes a point of parking nearby and watching everyone when they leave. Be prepared for a problem with them. They are not the brightest or most professional Department in the state. (Very close to the bottom)

I'm in the same boat. I haven't been in there in years, but my understanding is they have really cleaned the place up. This will be our first gig out there and we are hoping to make a good enough impression that they invite us back! (Hence the shameless attempt to generate a crowd!!)

I suppose it would be worth it to query the management. I certainly wouldn't my OC to be the reason we don't get a follow on gig!

oh my! you went "there" :)

I guess I was a little rough:cuss:

I should rephrase it. They are pretty good people except for a few minor problems.

Stu (The Sheriff) made the comment that only people with mental problems would OC. (That was to VCDL President)

They have arrested people for brandishing who were only transporting a firearm.

Then some personal problems with a few Deputies, Murder, Child molestation...just small stuff.

To the Departments credit, drugs such as Viagra are banned because the Deputies got too tall for their uniforms.

All joking aside Thunder Ranch, you may want to feel management out at these locations. If they don't allow firearms and find out you invited a group, the band could be put on the persona non Grata list.

asking permission is never a good idea - their only liikely answer will be confusion, and the word, no. They may even make up a new policy.

Asking permission and "Feel Out" are two different things Mike. While ThunderRanch is certainly old enough to make his own decisions, In MY opinion, it would be a good idea to know which way the wind blows before extending an iinventation to OC at a clients location.

It could well cause a problem with future bookings if the owner is anti and it could cause a lot of hard feelings if OC'ers are told at the door, to leave it in the car or go away.

**Bump** Update

The gig at Beef O'Brady's the Saturday evening had to be cancelled. The owner got hit with some sort of zoning violation for having amplified music on the patio. At first we were told it was a noise ordinance problem since the music went until 10PM. (Noise ordinance wouldn't have been a problem if the music stopped at 9PM) The owner siad that wasn't it. It had to do with a zoning issue that he can get corrected, but it won't be a quick or easy fix.

The gig at the Midway Lounge in Mechanicsville is still on for the 29th!

Yep. Same officer. To be quite honest, though, I haven't really broached the subject with him since the initial e-mail conversation. I have no doubt he's seen me OC during setup and tear down for the gigs, but he hasn't commented one way or the other.
