Hello Everyone,

I currently hold a vaildIndiana License To Carry Handgun. I am going to visit my sister in the Alma/St. Louis area this weekend and was wondering what the Michigan law is concerning an out of state licensee carrying (either open or concealed) within the state? Also, does anyone have any knowledge of carrying (either open or concealed) on an Indian reservation (like the Chippewa Reservation in Isabella County)?

My thanks in advance,

Brian

PS: I hope things turn out well concerning the incident in Grand Haven.

Michigan will recognise the permit. I was lucky enough to meet Ford Truck when he came up from Indiana and met with us in Lansing, and of course he was open carrying his Model 66.:)

You are good to go either OC or CC.

As for Indian Reservations, they can ban firearms and many do. There is some that say the reservations must follow state law and others that say they only have to follow federal law. Check with the political entity in charge of the reservation in question.

Michigan does not allow CC in casinos, but there is some interpretation in law that state if you have a CPL you can carry openly in a casino. But I think most casinos have a no firearm policy.

Be careful of places that sell alcohol for on site consumption. It is illegal for you to CC in an establishment, even with LTCH, where the primary source of income is alcohol, i.e. more than 50%. NOTE: Unless you have permission from the owner or agent of the establishment.

Does this license allow you to CONCEAL a handgun in Indiana?

Indiana's license allows both OC and CC. I received a letter from the Indiana State Police, and Michigan's permit allows OC or CC in Indiana. The Sgt. went on to say that OC is not a good idea...yadda...yadda...yadda.

Yeah, as a group, almost all police will tell you that OC is not a good idea. With a few exceptions. ;)

Indiana's carry permit is just that, a permit to carry. In Indiana, you can't carry off your own property without a permit, either CC or OC. I know, I'm from there, originally. ;)
