Hey I was just wondering if anyone open carrys with rifles or shotguns? I have a cheap 70$ youth singleshot shotgun that I would like to open carry. I would not want to risk getting my nearly 600$$ Glock taken away. ANyone ever tried this? Is it safe or doable?

From reading your other posts I strongly suggest you take a Permit To Carry class, as it would answer a lot of your questions with reliable, truthful, practicalinformation, and it's a lot less expensive than being arrested, which is another popular option. It would go a long way to answer other questions such as when you have the legal ability to use force (such as but not limited to using a gun), how to avoid being wrongfully arrested, what your rights are and how likely you are to be able to exercise them without arrest, and provide excellent foundation in personal safety and responsibility, to name a few.

If you're going to OC a long gun I'd highly recommend having it on a sling over your shoulder to avoid accidentally swinging it in anyone's direction and drawing some sort of brandishing or other charge that would be problematic to defend.

You're more likely to be noticed by even most people who spend their waking moments in condition white. A loaded bandoleer of shells across your chest will add a nice touch!

But it's certainly 100% legal, plus you have the added bonus of legally entering establishments that serve alcohol.
:monkeyRaise a toast to all OC'ers when you do! :monkey

Yes, be sure to pay someone for reassurance that you are exercising your RKABA safely and responsibly, advise being worth exactly what is paid for it. A mere citizen cannot know all the hypotheticals that will be raised by the gun controllers.

Gun control is about power and money and not about guns.

Safety is a tyrant's tool because no one can be against safety.

Either we are equal or we are not. good people ought to be armed where they will, with wits and guns and the truth. NRA KMA$$

I surely don't see how ignorance is a good way to avoid problems. Perhaps you can fill us in on that one.

By the way, we are not equal. Socialism is the attempt to make everyone equil, and it results in equal misery, not equal prosperity. We may be born equal, but if you think we all continue down the exact same path, ask one of your former commanding officers why they don't have to listen to your orders.

I know and I thank my Creator that we are not equal!

And if you think COs that I worked for as a civilian engineer didn't have to listen to my suggestions then you know little of Navy Nuclear Power or indeed of command. I was paid to help/teach/show them how to do things that they might do once in their career but that I did many times. One of my favorites, taught, "A wise man knows the right answer when he hears it." When they've earned their command star most of the horses-behinds are gone.

Were it so here on OCDO.

Your understanding of egalitarianism lacks historical foundation. You might start with the French Republic (1789) and the Bill of Rights (1791). Remember Liberté, égalité, fraternité?

Thanks for your gusy input,I was going to open carry to my buddy's house a block away to go and clean my guns at his house. But then i remembered that I live within 1000' of a school (stupid law!). I'll look into going to a class in the future when i have a little more money lol as they say more knowledge = more power. Yeah i'd of course have it on a sling lol, it's sad that we have to worry about just carrying our guns around when were law abiding citizens. I don't own a car, got 1500 saved up so far and bust my ass to make money loading semi trailers. And I can't go and use my friends gun bench to clean my gun because I'll probobly get arrested on the way over. WOW a sad world we are living in................:cuss:

Thx for everyones input, Ben

I agree, the WI legal system is in pretty sad shape.

I personally feel it's better to work with an officer and educate them that law-abiding citizens who aren't jerks do exist, than convince them everyone they encounter is a jerk in need of arrest.

Will do that if i ever run into trouble, and will be courtious. Can I carry the gun off of my personal property (house)and onto the street if I live with a 1,000' of a school? because the way i see it I guess is that I cannot leave my property with my gun unless its encase in my car. So i guess I'm totally screwed because of the 1,000' rule eh?

You're somewhat screwed. The 1000' rule does not apply to private property. If you leave your property and remain on private property you should be OK, but I guess if you're on the sidewalk it's a question of whether it's private or public. Technically, I suppose the sidewalk is on the private property of the landowner, but who wants to push that point? I guess I would if I was charged with a school zone infraction. Otherwise your gun must be unloaded and encased within 1000' of school property. Presumably that's how you'd have to carry it on foot until you're outside of the school zone. The stupid school zone law HAS TO GO!

Not all is lost however, because if you read the law, there is a provision to get a "license" to exempt you from the school zone law. I doubt there is ANY municipality out there that issues such a license, but I think we ALL ought to apply for one. If municipalities are not issuing school zone licenses, then I think the law may fall because of the constitutional requirement that there has to be a practical way to exercise the RKBA in Wisconsin.
