I am making preparations to work at the El Dorado Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer. Should I obtain a CCW for my own convenience? I have one in my current state of residence (Washington State.) Would I be well served by obtaing a CCW permit, or shouldI simply rely on my Badge and I.D. to settle the issue? I'm inclined to obtain a CCW as well to avoid any problems. I could use some advice.

If you become a KS citizen the OOS permit will be void. They don't even recognize OOS for non-KS citizens. I have a FL OOS permit and live in MO and KS won't recognize it.

Thanks for you reply. It looks as if I'll have to apply for my Concealed Weapons Permit as well as becoming a Corrections Officer (LEO.) Thanks for the advice.

I plan to do a great deal of open carrywhen off-duty. This world is just getting too dangerous.

Well first and foremost a Corrections Officer in the State of Kansas you are not a commissoned officer, therefore you will have to get a CCW in order to carry off duty. You may be in a position as an Officer to carry a firearm whiel on duty but those posts are very limited. As a current Officer at EDCF I would have to advise you to look at other positions with other departments. You can expect to get half a** training at best and broken equipment when you come to work at EDCF.

    Just my .02 cents worth.

In my opinion, the best reason for anyone to go ahead and get a CCW in Kansas is the protection it provides the holder in civil court. For example, even in the privacey of your own home, you give an intruder a double lovetap to the chest as he's coming at you with a knife. SURE, your off the hook in a criminal case, BUT NOT IN A CIVIL LAWSUIT!

If you screw up and the animal lives, he CAN take you to court and sue you for damages. Or his family... if he doesn't survive, or maybe BOTH if he does!

Pretty sick huh? Yah, but it's true. It goes right along with those stories of a burgler slipping on a skateboard while burglarizing someones house and breaking their leg, then sueing the homeowner. IT DOES HAPPEN!

The CCW law provides specific protection against this for permit holders!
