Reno Gun Show this weekend

First, let me qualify this thread with the following statement: I did some research and didn't find any statutes that prohibit bearing arms in gun shows. Please point me in the right direction if I got this wrong! (If you're laughing, keep in mind I'm from CA, where firearms are nearly banned outside of the home. Carrying a firearm into a gun show is illegal here.)

Due to my busy schedule, I'll only be attending on Saturday. I plan to carry my Sig P220 from the time I leave my house to the time I get back home.

So, will anybody else be attending the gun show armed?

There is no specific law making carrying at gun shows illegal. However, trespass laws state that if someone asks you to leave then you must do so or you will be trespassing.

Which gun show will you be going to?

Gunshows at the Grand Sierra Resort I have been to tend to check guns at the door, unload them, and put a zip tie through the action (although I carry in the Casino all the time with no problems, just the gunshow room during gunshow days does this.)

Also, while there is no law prohibiting open carry in government buildings (aside from Federal buildingsof course), I would expect ignorance on the side of policeif there is a "no guns per NRS 202.3673" sign. That sign only applies to concealed weapons, technically.

Thanks for the info.

I'm going to the gun show at the Grand Sierra Resort. Interesting that they would be worried about loaded guns in a gun show... that would not end well for the one person that decided to shoot somebody... Of course, if the good guys won't be carrying loaded the risk of such an act is reduced for the bad guy. :banghead:

If this is the case I may just as soon leave my gun in the car. Since the cops chipped the paint on my new gun, I'm paranoid about other people touching it.

I don't think they're worried about a crazy coming in and attacking. They're more worried about someone pulling out their loaded OC/CC gun and showing it to a dealer, or trying out holsters, and having a Negligent Discharge.

It's ironic that the few places that have "No loaded guns" signs are gun stores and gun shows.

But it is understandable. It is a massive insurance liability, not to mention sticking a thousand people with loaded guns into a closed warehouse is just a bad idea. Imagine what would happen if one of the guns discharged. Now try to imagine the confusing shootout that ensued. Now try to imagine, after several hundred innocent people shoot each other to death, the Supreme Court banning open carry (and concealed carry).

I don't think a massive shootout would insue. People aren't just going to open fire blindly.

That's a pretty wild imagination you have there. I've been to events where the majority of people were carrying loaded guns. You know what happened? Nobody got hurt.

I think you exaggerate the risk of an accidental discharge, as well as how sane people react.

Keep in mind that those signs do not make it illegal to carry concealed if you have a permit. Concealed means concealed.

I have carried concealed at gunshows (as long as they were not in prohibited venues).

Thanks for the info. However, at this time I am not ready to ask any bureaucrat for a permission slip, so I don't have one. Until concealed carry is decriminalized, I will continue to open carry whenever possible.

I'm not saying it "would", just that it "could". While 99.9% of all gun carriers may be responsible, sensible people, there's always that one guy who may panic. Have you ever seen all the tire marks on the E-way's dividing median? You wouldn't think that there were so many people dumb enough to run into a 7 foot stationary object that has been there for the last ten miles, but there you are.

I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to open carry in a gunshow, I'm simply saying I can see what the gun show organizers are thinking. Someone pulls out their gun to show another, it gets discharged, the guy who just got shot in the arm takes it as an intentional gesture, and things go south. The entire store turning to a western shoot-out was an obvious exaggeration, but even so.

I don't know what they're thinking, buta shootoutcaused by an accidental/negligent discharge would requirea statistically improbableamountof nuts to be around. That would require several nuts.

I went to the show, but kept my firearm in the car. I could have carried it though. There was no metal detector. The reason why I didn't go in packed was I wanted to drink. I had to pay the DD a buffet and a souvenir. Not a bad price.

I went, but wasn't carrying inside the casino. What I thought was funny was that the guy who went in ahead of me with a backpack had the pack patted down by security. I was wearing my concealment vest and never got a second look!
