Gentlemen, keep in mind that owning an AK-47 is not an easy thing to accomplish. First, you have to find one made before 1986. Then you have to fill out and submit a fairly extensive application to the BATF. Once approved, which can take months, you pay a $200 transfer tax, then purchase your rifle.. which ain't gonna be cheap.

These are fully automatic rifles and are therefore class 3 weapons. Not something you will commonly find at your local gun shop.

not all AK-47s are NFA. you can buy plenty of semi auto models.

unfortunately, to the gun grabber, there is no distinction between a full auto, semi auto, bolt action, or single shot. in one way or another, the gun grabber will ensure that they are all "assault weapons"

This is a touch subject...do we all call our semi auto AR15 rifles M16's? They may appear to be the same but that's where the similarities end.

Now that I'm kinda on a blackpowder kick nowadays, I wonder how those firearms, or should I call them smokepoles, will fare?

have you heard? criminals are using black powder rifles and muskets a lot more now. Black powder drive-by's are on the rise, so they have to be banned too.

no, it's really not. the AR-15 (arma lite model 15) is the civillian designation of the M-16. they are the same weapon. the only difference is in a matter of military designation. the M4, the M16, and the AR15 are the same rifle platform, just with different modifications.

the AK-47 (avtomat Kalashnikovaobratza 47) wasn't built in a Capitalist economy. it was designed for the Soviet military by the Soviet military, and was never intended to be sold on the free market. therefore it doesn't have the multitude of designations designed by free market entrepeneurs, unless you consider the various military designations from across the globe, because none were ever intended.

the difference, and the reason that most fel that it is such a "touchy subject" is in the fact that when civillian M-16s began to be massproduced in the market place in semi automatic configuration, the manufacturers used their original pre military designation, AR-15. since there was no pre military designation for the AK, and none would be as readily identified if if it weren't labeled by that designation.

a full auto M-16/M-4 is still built on the armalite model 15 platform, and as such it is still an AR. Likewise, a semi auto AK, is still built on the Kalashnikov platform, therefore it is stil an AK. no semantics, no level of "reasonable restrictions" BS is going to change that fact.

"reasonable restrictions" against AK assault rifles will lead to "reasonable restrictions" against M-16/M-4 type weapons. since they are built from the same platform, every weapon utilizing one of these 2 platforms will be targeted, and so on and so on. Once people like Obama are through, every semi-auotmatic weapon will be banned if not on function, then on aesthetics, as was the case with the 94 AWB. was that a "reasonable restriction"? hell no, just like NFA '34, GCA '68, FOPA '86, and the AWB '94, it will be infringement.

then all you will have will be your bolt action weapons, which will then be considered "sniper rifles" and likewise banned.

they can't turn us competely into a socialistic police state as long as good people are armed, and they will not stop until this goal is reached.
