Yeah, but I don't think that kind of bashing will get them very far. The last poll I saw on the subject held that something like 70% of Americans support domestic drilling. I'm sure Obama Bin Biden will use it - I just don't think it's gonna pay off in the long run for them.

Obama and bidencan have a fun time having that blow up in their faces
Over the opposition of oil companies, Republican Gov. Sarah Palin and Alaska's Legislature last year approved a major increase in taxes on the oil industry — a step that has generated stunning new wealth for the state as oil prices soared.

I am curious what the Democrats are really going to try and get her with.

Experience? The head of the Dems ticket spent only a handful of days as a Senator before declaring his bid for presidency.

Oil? She Taxed big oil and got Alaskans billions for her efforts

The war? Tough to really hammer someone whose son is actually over there risking their life for it. Can't say she's willing to let others risk their lives, she put her blood where her mouth was.

Her being a small town mayor? Yeah...im sure hitting her hard for that will work well with all those gun toting bible huggers Obama spoke of before.

Her 2nd Amendment beliefs and support of the NRA? Yeah...that worked SO well back in 2000.

The Enviroment? If you don't drink the kool-aid and support Al Gores vision of the enviroment 100% (unless your al gore then you're exempt) those dems will never support you. Real americans though that know a middle ground is needed will love her support of the enviroment coupled with the reality of people needing to work and gas needing to flow.

Though an unsuspecting move this may be the most deft Vice Presidential pick in history. The tickets now look like this:

Republicans - Old crotchety war hero maverick reformer and young attractive political outsider maverick who supports change

Democrats - Young attractive political insiderwho says he wants change and old white political insider who is the antipathy of change.

Hell, on hypocrisy alone I wouldn't vote for Obama.

TIED to big oil?????? What planet are you from?? He's a union worker (Steelworker'sUunion) taking care of large oil rigs. I guess if he swept the floors at BP, you'd still be saying he's "tied to big oil". Time to get a new tinfoil hat.....

Dude, get a grip. Todd Palin is a Union member and works for BP as a production operator in a seperator plant. He's not even a shift supervisor, let alone management of any kind.

He is also a commercial fisherman, and works on the North Slope during the off season for extra coin to provide for his family.

I think the entire American federal political process has hit a new low. Democrats are falling over themselves to elect a black man for president just because he's black. The Republicans counter with a woman just because she's a woman. Now having said this the following upside to Palin:

Upside:

1) She knows what it's like to live in a former Russian Republic and is the only governor who's territory is adjacent to Russia and she herself may have killed the Brown Bear.

2) She is probably for making America an Alaska Carry Country. No permits required open or concealed.

3) She's hot looking

Downside:

1) She talks funny. She may be a Canadian Mole.

Here's my (unsolicited) advice to you:

1. If you don't like the electoral college, don't tell me, tell your representatives. The electoral college is silly and antiquated and the dems probably don't like it because it screwed them in '04.
2. Vote for McCain anyway. This VP pick makes me not at all concerned how much bacon McCain eats.
the electoral college is one of the most important aspects of our govt. our system is NOT a democracy. it is a representative republic. democracy is mob rule, and always leads to socialism.

IMO each state should have a equal say, the larger states should not have more.

w/o the electoral college the only people that would matter would be the socialist losers in highly populated states

+1 !!!

I'm glad to hear there still are folks who understand the crucial importance of the Electoral College in maintaining fairness and "diversity" in our elections. Otherwise, the voting booths could just be set up in the largest cities, and the smaller states could simply watch the results on TV. Candidates wouldn't even bother campaigning in the "irrelevant" areas of the country, and there would only be one party (guess which).

Democracy may be mob rule all right, but it doesn't "always lead to socialism." Socialism is a very specific concept of government, one which has never existed, as a result of mob rule or otherwise.

I'm HIGHLY against a Woman in Office.

But at least her views are online.
Palin will also energize conservatives who have been lukewarm toward McCain. As Governor of Alaska, Palin has been a staunch conservative. She is the mother of five and is strongly pro-life. In perilous economic times, it is helpful that Palin has experience dealing with the energy industry. She supports drilling in ANWR and is a member of the NRA.

We're going off topic and I share the blame. I won't post on this any more, I promise. But I will say that Yales comment illustrates one of my objections to the electoral college. It makes people (like Yale) feel disenfranchised. Also, I'm not sure what point there is in moving political power from populous states to swing states. What makes Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania so important in the grand scheme of things.

For those who are interested here is the link to the wikipedia entry concerning the electoral college:

Ditto to TipsyMcStagger. I get so tired of people refering to our country as a democracy. It's a REPUBLIC. There are major important differences.

Now, since I'm getting divorced, and need a little inspiration: http://www.madogre.com/News.html

She dresses like that during a debate and Biden will be a bumbling idiot, falling all over himself.

Sorry for the low-brow humor, but I needed it today.

The Dems & drive-bys are already having a fit.

"Today,John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency," Adrianne Marsh, a spokeswoman for Obama, said in a written statement." (They forget to mention she's the current Gov. of a State of 683,000 people.)

And the Democrats,drive-bys, race-vote mongers, andgreenieswant to put a man with the same INTO the presidency! Pot calling the kettle, eh?
