Rockville Woman Shoots Man In Face With Paintball Gun The Hartford Courant 11:13 AM EDT, September 8, 2008 VERNON - A Rockville woman, apparently fearful her child's father was about to break into her house early Saturday, fired four shots from a paintball gun at the man, striking him once in the face.
Police arrested Renee Kauffman, 30, of 38 Ward St., and charged her with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace.
Kauffman told police her child's father had been gone about a week before his return early Saturday to pick up some belongings.
"He banged on the door trying to get in," Vernon police Lt. Brian Smith said. "She said she grabbed the paintball gun because she was scared he might try to break in. So she went outside and confronted him on the porch."
Smith said Kauffman fired four pink paintballs at the man, striking him in the left cheek.
"She claimed she didn't know the safety was off," Smith said. "She couldn't explain why she fired four shots."
Kauffman posted $25,000 bail and is to be arraigned today in Rockville Superior Court.
