Born and raised in Omaha. I am embarrassed by the extreme lack of activity in this state section. Do more than a hand full of Ne. citizens even care that you have been stripped of your right to defend your family and loved ones?

I read postings and see little or no replies. Get off your collective butts and do something - anything positive! Put together meet-ups, even 2 or 3 people - it's a start. Download and read Gun Facts http://www.gunfacts.info/ so that next time you here/see a negative you'll be armed with accurate information.

Organize, organize, organize. Grass roots activism works!

I live in South Dakota where I OC and CC regularly. I really dislike the fact that Nebraska will not accept my South Dakota CC permit. I avoid Nebraska for that very reason.

Nebraska business does not get my business simply because I don't travel there since they make it difficult for me to carry.

Open carried in Nebr for years. Born in Custer County and remember when I was (young) everyone had guns, lots of them, everywhere and no one thought much of it.

Living in MO. I tend to stay away from Nebr. as you can see by the posts or lack of them that the open and CC laws are pretty sad... Hope it can change for Nebr.

Good synopsis of gun laws by state - http://www.handgunlaw.us/

The absence of any law forbiding OC makes it legal in Virginia. You must be at least 18 yr. old, not a felon, not mentally incompetant and not under a restrictive order i.e. domestic violence.

Point of fact - open carry is the only legal way to carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol.

There are a few limitations/restrictions such as court houses, federal bldgs., churches (except if you have a need), K-12 schools, airport terminals, correction/jail facilities and some problems with 2 colleges.

BTW - do you have an Omaha open carry permit? It has been my understanding that they are required and that they make you jump through a lot of hoops to get one. Apparently Nebraska's preemption is not total.

OC & CC wise and number of like minded people make Va. a paradise compared to my old home state of Nebraska.

I have a ccw issued by the state(by way of theCuster County Sheriff)but I don't use it because I open carry anyway with it. If you want to see Nebraska check out a movie called ABOUT SCHIMDT it came out a couple of years ago with Jack Nicolson. It shows a lot of sights. Can you carry in the unsecured side of the airports ?ie; Baggage claim.

Unfortunately, no. Special to Va .:(

But I can OC (w/o permit) or CC (w/permit) a majority of places including parks, libraries, city/county board meetings, driving - even our state capital and legislative bldg but only with a CHP in these last two.

If your laws are so perfectly acceptable, why don't you help those less fortunate that stand before the kings bar or are you a unique form of isolationist - I didn't want to say elitest, but I just did didn't I.

BTW - have you carried in Omaha or traveled from another state through Nebraska?

No beef - you are entitled to your uninformed opinions and you are right - you just "don't get it." Try educating yourself to the real world happenings if you will.

Don't have a tissy, it was a legitimate question. Like I said we have oc in NE.

Okay so now I get it. You were indicating that all Nebraskans don't care about concealed carry all over the country. My mistake. I thought you were upset with us becasue we didn't have the desire to strap on our piston and go have a picnic to cause an awareness to oc in our state.

Just so you know most gun owners know oc is legal. It's the tree hugging anti gunners that aren't aware of it and we don't mind so much that they are ignorant to the fact. The fewer of the know the better since they'll only work on taking that right away as well.

I further understand you tissy now that I read your post and see that you were born and raised in Omaha. Sorry but I don't care for Omaha much. Don't care for the traffic, the crime or the attitude. It does have a nice zoo though and the college world series is nice.

Good to see that we are on the same page, at least generally.

I have permits from three states including Virginia but I cannot carry concealed in Ne. nor can I even carry openly in Omaha - my birth place. Who do I blame for this travesty - the apathetic or ill informed voters - my friends and relatives in Ne. and the general lack of any strong organized pro movement of citizens.

If every state responded the way that Ne. has, there would be no reciprocity at all. You could only carry a defensive handgun in your own state if that state even allowed it. This is not what the Second Amendment means to me - and I was taught to think this way in Omaha schools.

So no my quarrel is not with you my friend but with conditions as I see them in Ne.
Admittedly, I hit hard at some of your verbage but only for clarification.

Are you familiar with OCDO's banner slogan? "A right unexercised is a right lost." That right does not stop at the county or state line.

No, you have limited open carry in the places where the local governments have not yet decided to take that away from you. Tell me, how long would it be before I got arrested if I flew into Omaha, or even Lincoln, and after I left the airport strapped on my side arm and went shopping? Or better yet, how about if I were to go to a Cornhuskers game with my pistol on my side?

Also, there are times and places where concealed carry is safer and more advised. From what I can find, it is nearly impossible to know exactly where what kind of carry is legal. There are just too many local ordinances regarding firearms.

On my trip to Nebraska last December, I was amazed at how many business have posted no firearms signs. This was in small rural towns where I would think there would be support for self protection. You need to get organized and let these places know that as long as they won't allow you to carry you won't allow them to use your money. Even though I wasn't carrying, I drove from Friend into Crete to buy groceries because the little grocery store in Friend is posted. I also made sure the store in Friend knew what I had done and why. For a small store like the one in Friend, a couple hundred dollars (groceries for Christmas and New Years parties) is a significant impact on their business.

I have spent more than 20 years here in Utah working to make sure that ANYONE who either lives in or visits Utah has the right to carry in as much as this state as possible. We have fought hard to make sure that Utah will honor a concealed permit from anywhere and to make sure that you can carry open or concealed almost anywhere. We have fought for and won the right for people to be able to protect themselves even on our public college and university campuses.

Just in the last week we have pushed through new changes making sure that you can carry open or concealed, loaded or unloaded in any vehicle which you possess legally or have permission from the legal possessor. We also pushed through a change to make sure that a private venue such as an employer or sports venue that provides open parking cannot prohibit you from having your gun in your car.

I can promise you that unless you in Nebraska get organized and start electing people who understand the proper role of government and will stand up for the rule of law and get some statewide preemption laws in place, it won't be long until you are in the same situation as California or even Wisconsin in respect to your rights.

Maintaining your rights requires constant vigilance. Once you lose your rights it take far more work to get them back if it is even possible.

Just because you think an infringement doesn't affect you directly, I promise you that it does because it opens the door for further infringement on your rights.

Does Nebraska have any kind of state wide association of gun owners? I couldn't find one. (BTW, the NRA is not your friend in defending your rights, just last week in Idaho the NRA supported a bill that under certain circumstances requires all weapons in a home to be locked up.)

Please, get organized and protect and restore your rights while you still can! It is much easier now than it will be later.

Welcome to the freedoms(??) you served your country for: And while going to, and being in Iraq you were told, more like propagandized, that you were there fighting, possibly dying, for FREEDOMS of the American people; just as we were told in the 60's/70's we were dying in the jungles of Viet Nam BECAUSE we had to defeat communism...righttttt, while that same socialism/communism was alive, well and growing/spreading everyday on American soil. With the kind of "domestic enemies" we have wearing pinstripe suits in D.C., aka, District of Criminals, who needs the Taliban or Alquida??
