    Woman Abducted, Killed In Crash

A 61-year-old woman was abducted at gunpoint Saturday from Springfield Mall and later killed in a car crash with her kidnappers, police said. Store surveillence video captured her last moments.

Police said two men forced Arlington resident Barbara Bosworth from the mall and into her Saturn, forcing her to drive to ATMs and take out cash Saturday afternoon.

"This is a true victim," Prince William County police Maj. Ray Colgan said. "I can't imagine anything worse than a woman being abducted by two thugs in a parking lot at gunpoint."

At one point during the ordeal, Bosworth was able to call her husband. She said she was calling to ask him for the PIN and cleverly called him by the wrong name, police said. Her husband called Fairfax police.

At 3 p.m., witnesses saw a woman being escorted around a convenience store in Woodbridge and knew something wasn't right, police said. The victim was forced to buy beer and use the ATM.

One man in the store pretended to know the woman, giving her a hug and whispering to ask if she needed help. She said that she did, and the man called 911.

The kidnappers left with Bosworth before police arrived. Police said the witness tried to follow the kidnappers' car as it raced cross U.S. 1 at high speed. An officer nearby spotted the car and began to follow as it sped across the road, never slowing down for traffic, police said.

At Neabsco Road and Indus Drive, the driver lost control and smashed into a wooded area. Bosworth was found dead in the car. Her two abductors -- one of them ejected from the car -- were flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where both were in critical condition Sunday. Police had not been able to identify the men Sunday afternoon.

Police said they found a fake weapon in the crash scene.

Friends of the victim said she was a devoted wife of 24 years and an animal lover.

I just saw this report on the TV. It's disgusting what these two people did to this woman. Thing is, I was just across the street near Borders book store right around the time this woman was abducted. Crime is not abstract, it's closer than you think.

    anonamous 17 year old"
"I was robbed at gunpoint by two men around ages 19 - 20 the night before. The location was less than 1/2 a mile from the pdq they took the woman two.
They used a revolver that looked fake - same gun that they used on this woman. They looked mixed black and white to me but i believe its the same people.
I hope so because they threatened to kill me and my 4 friends if we called the police. We did anyway and im not trying to die so i hope police take care of this. I hope nurses pull their plug or i will cause they stole my wallet and i dont like it"
    --------
Sad that the woman's death could and should have been stopped the night before, assuming the two events ae related. Kudos to the store employee for adding some assistance. I can see most people not wanting to get involved, or just not recognizing something was odd.

it will be interesting to see how Springfield Mall responds to this incident. I'm sure it will be met with more security patrols, more cameras, etc. I'm not holding my breath to see if they change their firearms policy though.

Gotta love that mall...how much of this violence will it take before they figure out that anti-gun policy does not prevent crime.

I went to their website and wrote them an email:

    Good morning.

Is it true that Springfield Mall does not allow for their customers to legally carry firearms and thus defend themselves from real crime?

I hear stories from time to time about people being abducted/robbed at knife or gunpoint in your parking lots. Now I hear of another story where an elderly lady was abducted at gunpoint over the weekend and ultimatetly died. This all seems very odd because they weren't allowed to bring guns onto your premises. I'm not sure how that one fell through. I guess the bad guys don't care much about your policies orstate laws. It makes myself and other people I talk to very concerned about visiting your shops anymore. We do not want to congregate without protection in such a high risk building where there tend to be a higher than acceptable rate of illegal behavior and malicious attacks.

At any point are you going to reconsider allowing your customers to legally defend themselves against these attacks on your premises with legally owned firearms? You've managed to take the weapons out of the law abiding customer's possession. What steps do you as a company plan to take to remove the guns/knives from the criminals possession?? You know, the people actually causing the problems.... If there are not any plans to alter your policy against self defense, as a Springfield resident I may have to reconsider risking my life to spend a few dollars at your mall. There are other places to spend my hard working money where I can defend myself and do not have to be concerned with so much life threatening criminal behavior. It just doesn't seem worth it to risk my life to buy a CD or get a haircut at your mall anymore.

    Sincerely,
    Chris

Talk about close to home! I live about a 10 minute walk from PDQ, I stop in just about every other day. I drove by on Saturday and saw two PWC cruisers out front and was wondering what happened.

Last month on a Sunday night they were robbed at gun point by two juveniles that were caught the next day trying to rob a B&T or Wacovia bank in woodbridge.

The store owner always seems glad to see me when I come through the door and he always looks towards my right hip. I had posted on another thread that about a year ago I walked in one night and and to suspicious people left without buying anything. It appeared as though the were looking to make a forced withdrawal.

Montclair used to be pretty much a crime free area, but as we all know,, things are changing.

We need state legislation - Gun Free Zone Liability Act - let's call it the "No More Barbara Bosworth - Disarmed Victims Act" or similar.

"If you create a gun-free zone, you're liable for any harm it causes."

I think this is something VCDL should push. The link is the Arizona version. The death of Barbara Bosworth is a horrible tragedy, but it will probably take a law like GFZLA to get businesses like Springfield Mall to change their dangerous policy.

It does not cost the government anything. It does not cost the private property owner anything. It only costs them if harm befalls someone and they prohibited carriage of firearms.

I think it might be nice to send this email, or our own emails, to the actual stores themselves! They are the ones who can really put the screws to the mall's administrators!

With Naked, its even money its entirely satire.
I'll make you an offer: I will argue and fight for all of your rights, if you will do the same for me. That is the only way freedom can work. We have to respect all rights, all the time--and strive to win the rights of the other guy as much as for ourselves.

If I am equal to another, how can I legitimately govern him without his express individual consent?

There is no human being on earth I hate so much I would actually vote to inflict government upon him.

Eyesopened is correct. The mall will be torn down and a new structure(s) built in its place. I'd assume the same anti-protection policies will remain, so I won't be a customer there. But, that's a few years away.

Where did you find that info naked? On the FFx Co website?

Just looking at the mall and the way businesses have been vacating it the last two years I figured it was only a matter of time, anyway. Whenever it rains there are buckets all over the place to catch the leaks, and I saw mice running around behind the furniture in JC Penny.

They want to make a "town center" style mall, which will no doubt have inadequate parlking and no-guns signs all over it.

Shitfield mall will do what they've always done. Put every housekeeper, plumber, electriction, office secretary...into one of their unmarked little pick-up trucks with a yellow light on it and drive around the parking lot as an "increased presence" of security....while the media spotlight is on them, once again. Then, something new and exciting will happen somewhere else, and they'll go back to their, "we don't have crime here" mode. The worst thing that happended to them, was they contracted out security so Securitas, andgot rid of all the badass's that used to Thump those little gang bangers as soon as they entered the Mall. Those were the days.
