Date: Saturday October 18th.

Time: We are thinking breakfast around 9:00.

Place: We are thinking either Denny's on the Guide Meridian (take the Meridian exit off I-5 northbound, turn right, and turn right) OR Shari's (right across from Denny's on your right as you come off the northbound freeway).

Anyone know if Denny's has a corporate policy so that I can take it with me when I go to the restaurant to set up the meet? From browsing the site it looks like a couple Denny's are OK but there isn't a corporate that I can find.

I live in Hawaii but my place of residence is Oak Harbor, WA. I go back and forth quite often. I am coming back in October for deer season. It sounds like a good plan. I can reach B'ham with no problem. I am goingthe Ranier area to hunt this year so I may be there around that time frame. I will do my very best to make the lunch or breakfast. If I am just coming out of the woods I will do my very best to not beto "high rollin' and foul smellin'" (John Wayne). I always carry concealed but I will open carry for this.

#3, #4, #15, #23, #331 all appear to go right by both those restaurants. Or you can catch any bus that goes to Bellis Fair and walk across the street.

I'll try to get down to Denny's this week and chat with the manager. Any suggestions on the best approach other than "A bunch of us want to bring our guns to breakfast"

Just moving this up to make sure people are still seeing it. I haven't made it out to Denny's to talk to the manager yet but will try to get there in the next couple of days.

I was in Bellingham this morning for several errands and while there I stopped in at Denny's. I had breakfast, OC'ing. No one said a word, mostly because I don't think anyone noticed, but the cashier gave a startled look as I was paying my tab. I asked to speak to the manager and got the asst. mgr. I asked her if I need to make a reservation for (?) 6-8 people who, just incidentally will be OC'ing. She told a story about an incident with an OC'er and a family sitting across from him. Police were called and the cops escorted the guy out of the place. (I didn't get any more details, and I have no idea if the guy was from OpenCarry.org.) This was a real hot potato, and she quickly passed the buck to the manager, a guy named Lynn, who happened not to be there at the moment. She gave me his phone # and said he'd be in in about an hour.

I just got off the phone with Lynn, who also passed the buck to his Area Manager. He will be calling me back after consulting with the boss. This is quickly getting to a significant level and I think will ultimately decide the status of allDenny's in the Northwest vis-a-vis our DNP list. If his answer is No, we'll have to try Shari's for our get-together. Either way, I'll post a report on the DNP thread.

I would have to say the management called for removal to avoid confronting patron. If another patron called to complain and cops removed OC patron without a complaint or consent fromestablishment, bad on establishment,no NADS in stopping this.If the cops removed OC patron fromprivate property with out management consent orcomplainant, bad on COPS and again no NADS on management part. If Denny’s allows this sort of treatment to patrons DNP list them.
ADD: Lets quick asking and just go as an unarmed citizen does! They don't ask premission to eat!

From my perspective I want to have a good time socializing and having breakfast. I don't want to have the hassle of arguing with management or cops. That is not the point of this get-together. I want to meet you guys and have people see us out OCing. If we know ahead of time that the management is going to kick us out or call the cops why go.

So we aren't really asking permission to eat, we are finding out beforehand whether or not there could be issues in order to forestall those issues.

To put it simply... no.

That's not what the DNP List is for. If a company wants to stay neutral where the police are concerned, that's their business and I can't fault them for that, since it's not their responsibility to know and defend the law and our rights. Now, if they say "No OC in our establishments" then they'll be up on the list.

Interestingly enough, I've only had one minor issue with Denny's in Redmond and that was just a misunderstanding where I cleared it up later and was told by the manager that I and others were welcome to OC there.

bone, you are right about all of these points, BUT as I said in my post I did not get all the details, such as (1) WHO called the cops, and (2) WHO made the decision to remove this guy.Theassistant mgr this AMdid say it started with a complaint from "the family" about the gun. I asked specifically whether the guy was doing anything threatening, or in the language of the RCW, warranted alarm, andher answer to that was in the negative. Beyond that we don't have any basis for drawing conclusions except that it's a bad sign for our get-together..

It's now about 4:30 and I still have not heard from the store manager. Again, a bad sign, but the day isn't quite over. Stay tuned.....

I'd say that given what we have heard about other Denny's, if we don't hear back we will assume that we are good to go and have breakfast there. If they ask us to leave we will walk across the street to Shari's. It's only about fifty feet. Richard, I would suggest not pushing it. If you don't hear back let it drop. If you push it they may decide to say don't come here just so as to not have the hassle. We won't bring it up with them again unless they do. OK?

Heresolong, Richard6128, you both have very valid points (1) facts not know, (2) none response for Denny's, (3) should continue with meet at Denny's with out worrying about response, if they don't response thenget the response via reaction when the peaceful group arrives for chow like any other patron that day. Ifasked to leave round everyone up and head for the secondary choice.

Hope I can make it, have an MRIat Madigan Army hospital Sunday. Will try to convince the wife to make a little drive both ways both days from Arlington.

Roger that on pushing things. (I originally wrote an answer around 8PM and it got hung up in cyberspace and never went out.)

I didn't intend to call the guy if he didn't call me, but my conclusion from that is more negative. I think he's ignoring us hoping we'll just go away. Well come two Saturdays from now, SURPRISE! OTOH, it could be something like he couldn't get hold of his boss and I won't hear back until some time next week.

Here's another what-if: Who knows what kind of reception we might get at Shari's if we have to go there.

Well, it's back to Square One. I just got the call from the Meridian Denny's manager and his answer was No, BUT here was his "wonderful" offer: the Mount Vernon store has a banquet room, and he offered me the phone # of that manager. I said "Do you mean that you want to sequester us in a back room where no one can see us?" Answer: Yes. I told him this would defeat our entire purpose. I said I would make this post for all to see and watch the reaction, which I told him would NOT be favorable. I said No Thanks to the phone number, but IF we agreed I would call him back for it.

How's that for diplomacy, eh? Lots of times I would have ripped the guy a new one, but this is exactly how it went down. I will be posting a complete report on the DNP thread sometime today. Meanwhile, we're back to Square One. heresolong, do you want to try the manager at Shari's?

Another thought: the guys in the Bellevue area had a get-together recently and there were several other chain places they were considering at the time, notably Red Robin and a couple others. There's the Red Robin in Bellis Fair and several others in the area around Meridian/ I-5. Maybe we should expand our horizons.
