I may think about carrying when I am off campus late at night. A person got shot in the home invasion. I am about to go pick up a 12ga pump for here:uhoh:

Around midnight Wednesday, Sept. 24, four Old Dominion University students were robbed at gunpoint in the vicinity of 49[sup]th[/sup]Street and Killam Avenue.

About 10 minutes later, there was a home invasion and attempted sexual assault near 48[sup]th[/sup]Street and Powhatan Avenue. One of the victims was shot in the leg as the suspects escaped.

In both incidents, the suspects were described as two black males, approximately 17-20 years of age, driving a small white car, possibly a Ford Escort or a Toyota Corolla, according to police.

Norfolk police are leading the investigation with assistance from Old Dominion University police. Norfolk police have assigned additional units to patrol the ODU campus and the surrounding area until further notice.

Police recommend that students keep your car and house doors locked, and do not answer the door unless you know the person knocking. If you see any suspicious person or activities, call the Old Dominion police immediately at 683-4000.

Town hall meetings will be held at 12:30 and 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Board of Visitors Room in Webb University Center. There will be additional meetings in the residence halls beginning Thursday evening. Students are urged to attend to discuss concerns and safety precautions.

Additionally, students who live off-campus in the areas where these incidents are occurring and who are concerned, can contact the Office of Student Housing at 683-4283 about temporary quarters.

Please continue to monitor your e-mail for additional information about the investigation and student services.

Read too quickly, you are correct. It seems there were multiply incidents with similar circumstances, within a short time span.

So why would anybody need a gun near ODU? :banghead:

I do, since I work at 38th and Powhatan, But according to my work rules I cant have one locked up in my vehicle because it is a safety violation. Go figure. Lucky for me I work days. I think it might be time to talk to my supervisor again.

It's a nice gun, I have one. You have to have a pocket holster, preferably one that keeps the gun properly presented for drawing. No safety of any sort so I would not carry it without a holster even in an empty pocket unless unchambered.

It really doesn't print.

Eh there is no way I would carry that close to campus because I am sure the police would harass me. Maybe I will just get all of you to walk around with me a night:celebrate That would be funny to see a guy try to rob us then:lol: Oh and a guy in my criminal justice class told me more on the incident. He apparently lived next to the house that the incident occurred in and told us that the BG got the girl to strip down to butt naked then a guy in the house tackled the BG and there was a fight over the gun. If it was my house I wouldn't have tackeled anyone. My Glock would have tackeled the BG for me:lol: Now of course you would have to make sure he didnt have his finger on the trigger and catch him at a moment that he didnt have the gun pointed at anyone. Tackeling someone with a gun is a bad move. It could have turned out way worse if he had fired when the guy tackeled him. I am in a good area where I live so I feel better, but not 100% safe. Next week I am going home and bringing my Glock down. I don't think I'm going to carry, but if I am forced to go somewhere around campus late at night I may think about it.:uhoh: I am sure some of you would do the same

Dads do that.
As a dad and grand dad, I can tell you No father wants to get the call that his son shot someone,

The only thing worse, is to get the call that someone shot his son!

Could be worse, your father could be a lawyer. Mine still bitches about me carrying a gun. Been complaining about for over 50 years:what:

Yea we will see. I will not carry it unless it is at night and I am going somewhere I feel uncomfortable. Jim, this weekend I want to see what kind of defensive shooting techniques there are. I know we won't really make it back out to the range until sometime in later October because both you and I are gone the 5-6 and the 11-14. I do want to see what some techniques are so that I can practice them at my local range when I am home for those weekends. I will probably just do something like 4 rounds and put in on the table facing down range. Then just pick it up and do two double taps. I'm not really comfortable or knowledgeable enough yet to draw from the holster. I can practice that at home with an unloaded pistol.:) I think the hardest part for me will be acquiring the target quickly.

Most ranges do not allow drawing from holster - if yours does great.

One of the best techniques you can learn is point shooting at a target 10 ft and less away - looking over the top of the barrel w/o actually getting a sight picture.

Later with drawing and firing 1st shoot when elbow is at right angle, 2nd shot as arm extends and third shot with arm extended. There are variations: study, choose and practice. Dry fire (from a cleared weapon) daily. Repeat, repeat and repeat.

As you train, so shall you respond.

One important thing for a quick draw I've found it getting your hand on the grip properly. I wear a paddle holster so it tends to slide around on me. If I don't keep the holster in the proper position my hand might grab it 1/2" off which makes for a lousy aim no matter what method you use.

They allow live draw and fire at my range so I get to practice it. I'm getting fairly good now with 4" rapid double tap groups at 7 yards my last time out, consistently. I haven't gotten to the point of drawing and bringing the gun up right on target yet. So I still have to aim which takes an additional 1/4-1/2 seconds of time.

I want to try shooting with my middle finger and having my pointer finger on the slide. It has been brought up to me, but I would need to also practice drawing that way too. I have the serpa holster so I do press the button down as I draw. When I do have the pistol holstered, I use the belt system since the paddle is such a PITA to get off:p I'll have to work with drawing techniques at my house and point shooting techniques at the range.
