I've seen lots of 'incedents' with LEO who want us to conceal the piece.

Well I've just seen a good deal on a Wildey, and figure there is no way that
it is going to ever be consealed so I wouldn't be able to comply if I wanted to.
But how to qick draw a monster like that when needed? Do you just need
to expand your zone of awareness to account for the slower access?
Or dedicate years of practice on a long draw technique.
Or double holster so I can balance out load with 45 and mags on oposite side,
and use them for defense. Just the idea of asking LEO how am I supposed to conseal
this? Makes the idea of holster stretch worth it.

It also fits my hand very well and felt great to shoot. Always like the
shock effect of 44 snub nose, but this was unreal. Can you sue the BG
for hearing loss if he doesn't give you time to insert your earplugs?

Wife asked me who the other women was when I came home with a big grin.

Nope, have never even thought of buying something this big.
But the first thought was no way to comply with 'hide it for me request'.
But the purpose of carrying is defence, and this 5 pound monster doesn't
seem to lend itself to a quick draw when needed. Although it also
would not be a piece that cauld be lifted off of me on the sly as well.
My knee will reach the ground without hitting the barrel, but time clearing holster
is my worry.
Cross draw seems to give quickest option I think. Wouldn't be every day
piece, but special #$%^ thier at it again rallies, and for formal affairs, it is one
nice cannon.

Might need a thicker than 3/8" steel backing for range, and lots of sound abatement.
But I fell in love with the first trigger pull, and will definatly drown out the
request to take out the garbage. Hadn't had that much fun since I shot an outhouse
with a TOW. Don't let them fool you sh*t does fly.

You don't say what barrel length your new toy has. They were made from 7" to 14" I believe.

Can't imagine a "quick draw" holster for that hand cannon. Maybe a swivel holster or a two point tactical sling for rapid deployment. :D

Yata hey

PS - Maybe a tactical drop/thigh rig is the way to go of course then to CC you'd need to wear a duster or raincoat. :uhoh:

If someone is going to carry for defensive purposes, if that is the true intent and not to make some sort of statement, then a thought or two in regards to practicality is also in order, when carrying a weapon.

Do you plan to only take out the bad guy, or the more than 3/8" thick piece of steel behind him, when you finally get it out? Just wondering.

OC my be primarily our preferred method of carry for defensive reasons; additionally though, many recognize that OC is making a statement - that being it is legal and further we are educating the public about it in the process.

I wasn't familiar with the pistol and had to look up info. From what I found availability was in 5"-14" barrels. What caliber were you looking into purchasing SlackwareRobert? And as Grapeshot asked, which barrel length? And more importantly, since most of the calibers offered are quite expensive, are you willing and able to spend the $ to shoot it enough to ensure functionality and accuracy?

It is the 'tiny:lol:' 8" barrel. satin finnished, I fired 5 rounds of the .475.
Yes, I will be reloading so I can afford to shoot it. Although as I mentioned
will need much more sound abatement, and bigger down range stopping steal.
Might just add second sheet, and when I start hitting it, I'll move that up, and
add another behind it. Or possibly wooden sheet first for cheap replaceable
first step to obsorb the brunt of the impact.

Have transfered the money to local bank, and now just need to finish convincing
the wife before the weekend. I was supposed to be out looking for a left handed piece for my son, when I stumbled accross this one.
Guess I could order the rifle stock, and teach him to shoot right handed.:banghead:

But the big problem is justifying as a self defence piece, as a I just want it,
she is just so nervous about the economy, and gas prices. I am working on
the home defence if nothing else and seem to be winning. Just need to convince
her that I won't make it an 'in your face OC piece', she knows I love to
push the envelope of authority, but as this is my RX-7 engine fund i'm useing,
and will keep the car mothballed for another season I am sacrificeing.
Besides it could take quite a while just to find a holster for it.

It would be so much fun to watch the cop car sag when it is placed on the hood.
Can always use 'smaller' loads for self defence rounds. This would protect
the rear bumper from a front engine shot at least.

Cross draw definately. This is NOT a CC weapon... this is a cannon. I wouldn't use it for self defense... Too much probability of collateral damage or hitting a bystander.

Quite sure - well reasonable so - that you will need to have a holster custom made.

+1 on the cross draw.

I was thinking about a small holster to cover the trigger guard assembly,
that would pivot forward. Then a small? cap on the leg to support/protect
the front site/muzzle. Clear the stub, then tilt forward as you cross draw.

If it wasn't for this site, and all the 'cover that encounters' I read,
I wouldn't have even bothered fireing it and falling in love again.
It was the gee let me see that, as I thought CCW not!
I can stand the 'size of your gun' ribbing I will recieve no doubt.
In close quarters, it would also make a good battle axe.:what:
And if you are on the muzzle side of this thing, the only place you might hide from
anyone is the sewage treatment plant, your shorts will be full.

I firmly believe in carrying anyway one wishes. I do believe it is also a responsibility to preserve some sort of conservative approach to what one carries. If public outreach and education, not shock and awe, is the goal of open carry. Then it is up to us to come across that way. But it is a free country and to each his own. I for one only carry a weapon for two reasons. 1) I'm just silly that way.2) It is already my right regardless of current or futurelaws that defer with that opinion.

Also a self defense weapon should be practical and deployable as a self defense weapon. If you carry a gun, it is a probability you will have to use it one day. Is that not the reason for a weapon? OC or CC makes no deference to me. What ever a person feels confident and tactically proficient with. I was not trying to be asmart@$& about anything. I am sorry if it came across that way. You all stay safe.

I wasn't offended, that is my thought. How do you use a cannon in self defense?
Of course my biggest problem is bulls, and they are very good about telegraphing
the charge, and this will put one down.

But on the good side.... She said yes, pick it up this weekend.
As an everyday piece it will be 'plinking' (doesn't fit) only, but for those
false arrest support rallies, and of course formal affairs.... Will definately need to get
a good leather worker to make the holster. Won't be OC in Wall Mart@###% though, no need to frighten the back offices more than they already are.
I did pull out a nice low profile bearring for pivot, and a 12" graphite rod
to link the muzzle piece. Now to find someone to add leather on the two ends.
Need to fire up the cad software I guess to make a virtual holster first.

But I will be playing with bullet, and charges to find what works as a minimum
to acctuate the slide reliably. The longer barrel helps in this, and then how much more before the recoil needs readjusting.
Then can load a 2 + 1 sequence, and have the power every 3rd shot if needed
without going through the BG.
And I guess lots of cross draw practice:celebrate
