All black powder guns are exempt from Federal and Ohio State laws. Federal law and Ohio laws state that BLACK POWDER GUNS and modern curios of same are considered to be "PRIMITIVE" because they do not/cannot utilize fixed ammunition and are also exempt from registration. So, if you open carry a black powder revolver and are questioned by police a quick call to the B.A.T.F. or the Ohio Attorney Generals Office will confirm your right to open carry a black powder revolver. I have done extensive research both with the B.A.T.F. and the Ohio AG's office and found this to be true and factual.
