Ok so this might be kind ofembarassing to admit but here goes.

I was pumping gas a while back at costco in issaquah OCing. After im there for 1min the attendant walks up to me and gives the usual "areyou acop?" this case it was "are you a detective?" I turned around and said "no, I'm a PAC" which to memeansPrivate Armed Citizen. Alright so...as soon as I said that he said "oh, P.A.C." and walks away. I had thought about saying that before but never did until then and I havent done ever since.

When I did it and the reaction I got I was like hey, thats a really good way to get people to leave you alone real fast. I know I'm suppose to be educating the public about OCing but there are those times that you just want to be in and out, you know? heres my question

Was this a smart idea? or completely stupid and illegal?

I told my cousin and hestarted laughing. Whenever I see him now, hescalls me

PAC-man.

"Are you a cop?"

"No, private security."

"No, a personal security agent."

"No, a homeland securty volunteer."

"No, a crime suppression assistant."

Etc.

As long as you don't identify yourself as a cop, a federal agent, or some other government position your answers are not illegal.

Charles,

"No, private security."
I love it! I'm going to use that next time. Would be real fun if someone wants to dig for more details:

"What company?" .. "My company."
"Does it have a name?" .. "Yeah, '(my first name) security'."
"What do you secure, exactly?" .. "Myself. My family. You, at least for another couple of minutes..."

That's awesome. The troublemaker in me is smiling from ear to ear. Of course, kinda throwing out the 2A education opportunities here, aren't we?? Eh, we all like to be left alone sometimes though. Good stuff!

Well, I've OC'd at the Costco pump all but one time that I was in a hurry. And one of the times I was OC'ing, a late teens/early twenties attendant asked me about it and I said it was legal and told him to hold on. I grabbed a pamphlet and handed it to him and said it was his. He thanked me and walked off reading it.

After finishing pumping, I always pull off to an adjacent parking lot to calculate my MPG (never get less than 30 and average is around 35). When I pulled out of that lot and passed by the pumps to leave, the attendant was standing there reading the pamphlet... a good 5 minutes later.

The point of this story is to point out that you may have missed an opportunity to educate someone... one of the many reasons some of us OC.

Someone on here about a year ago was telling people OCPD (which he claimed meant Open Carry Personal Decision). It was pointed out that misrepresenting your self as a police officer is in fact a crime and that anything ending in PD would mean police department to the average person. So be careful when you make up initials that they don't actually refer to a law enforcement agency that you were unaware of and that they don't give the impression of law enforcement.

This is a very cool idea. Good work.

I don't see how it could possibly be illegal.

I usually just tell people "No, actually I am an attorney" or "No, I am a firefighter" (both of which are true) and that confuses them enough. Sometimes they ask more which gives the education possibilities. But if they don't ask for more they probably weren't going to benefit from the education.

Why bother invinting a title? It does you no good except to avoid a conversation, and it leaves people with the idea that only people with a "title" or something else "special" get to carry guns openly. If you can bear to have a conversation about OC with someone, don't OC.

With all due respect I will disagree. I assume you meant "if you CAN'T". My primary reason for OC or concealed for that matter, is not to educate anyone. In fact I think the primary reason is and should be my and my families personal protection. Education is great and given the opportunity I'm all for it. But I don't primarily carry a weapon for that reason.

I tend to agree with the first part of your post about inventing and titles but avoiding conversations is sometimes just exactly the ticket. Sorry, I know that doesn't advance the aims of this group but again those aims are not the PRIMARY reasons for my actions.
