GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Police said a man was killed when his teenage son accidentally shot him in the face Tuesday evening.

Deputies said Jonathan William Riggins Sr. was teaching the 18-year-old gun retention techniques in the basement of the home. Somehow, the gun fired, hitting Riggins in the face. Riggins' son was not injured.

Greenville County sheriff's deputies responded at about 8 p.m. to 227 Motor Boat Club Road off Whitehorse Road, where Riggins was killed.

When deputies arrived, they said that the teen's girlfriend, Riggins' wife and a neighbor were all in the basement with the wounded man. Investigators said the shooting appears to be a tragic accident.

Authorities said an autopsy is scheduled on Wednesday.

A 'solution' in search of a problem. Cite a successful non-LEO gun grab. We Legally Armed Citizens are not cops or cop-wannabes (speaking at least for myself).

Either we are equal or we are not. Good people ought to be armed where they will, with wits and guns and the truth. NRA KMA$$

Is that why there are at least 1,468 threads on here about SERPA holsters and the pros and cons of them. :D

Well maybe not 1,468 but a lotof discussion aboutretention and gun grabbing. :cuss:

When I had guns, I was concerned a lot about retention. I spent a lot of time in the field climbing on rocks and going through thick brush and the like and I didn't want my gun to fall out of my holster.

I didn't like Serpa's because I am a leather kind of guy and don't care for plastic.

I am not LE and I don't escort prisoners and now that I no longer own guns I really don't need to worry about someone grabbing a gun from my holster.

I once had a lot of discussion with a guy on here who made comments about the shoulder holster I had for the revolver I used to have, and people grabbing my gun.

Pfft, wanna bees.

Follow the marketeer's money? To a hammer everything is a nail? To a maker of TAG retention holsters every Bad Guy is a pick-holster. They know their market is eXtreme CQB shotgun-chic gullible.

My SERPA will be delivered in the next day or so. It's a political statement, in advance of the Omamination, I'll wear it empty until I can facilitate legal OC or it is time to make the decision whether to live in an Obamination or not. When they come for my gun then I'll decide then and there whether it's worth it or not.

ETA: TAG, technique avant guard, French for 'high tech'.
