Is a judge allowed to "not accept a plea"

A judge in traffic court this morning he would not accept a "no contest" plea.

I asked him if it was my right to plead no contest and he said yes but he wouldn't "accept it".

rather than cause a commotion i made a different plea because i knew the charges would be dismissed. (which they were).

Seem odd he can refuse a plea. Doesn't make sense, like refusing a no guilty plea?

    whats the deal here

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nolo_contendere
In many jurisdictions a plea of Nolo contendere is not a right, and carries various restrictions on its use. In the United States, state law determines whether, and under what circumstances a defendant may plead no contest. Several other common law countries, however, prohibit the plea altogether.

this is a different dumbass. do you not understand the difference between traffic tickets and CRIMES? why would i be in traffic court for a misdemeanor crime?

i got pulled over and harassed because the headlight on my bike was out in the middle of the day. in oregon you have to have a headlight on during the day on a bike.
