Gun advocates in Oklahoma and elsewhere want laws to allow carrying guns in plain sight, The Oklahoman in Oklahoma City reports.
Oklahomans can get permits to carry concealed guns but cannot display them openly. A signature drive is trying to change that, joining the efforts of Virginia-based OpenCarry.org, the newspaper said.
Oklahoma law enforcement associations do not believe open-carry laws would make gun carriers safer, the newspaper reported. Supporters say having a gun visible would deter criminals and increase accessibility. "The quicker the access, the better in a life-or-death situation," said Donald Ohse, a movement participant.
