I currently own an SA XD 45acp. OC's great in my Serpa Level 2, but it's a bit big when I need to CC. I'm looking at a Colt Defender. Does anyone have any experience with them? Thanks.

Personally, I'm not a fan of 3" 1911's. They have a reputation for being finicky. Even though I find a full size 1911 pretty easy to conceal, a CCO* would be even better.

*A CCO has a commander slide (4.25") with an officer's frame. It makes for a nicepackage about the size of a Glock 19, but tinner, of course.

The little Defender is arguably the best of the 3" 1911's. If it were not for a passing money crunch I'd still be totin' mine. You'll need to change the recoil springs more often than a full size 1911 but it's not alot of drama to do so.
