I love to open carry, because it just seems to put everything above board.

I am a landscaper and work for my uncle's company. I think he isn't thrilled about me carrying everyday, but he tolerates it. Hebelieves in the second firmly, but he has to take into account the sensibillities of the customers whosyards we are in.

This being the case, I have to kind of size up each customer during the day, as to whether I can carry openly on their property or not. I don't want to be asked to leave, because that would seriously hamper my ability to perform the task that my Unc sent me and my team there to do, and then he would look like this..:cuss:

When we go to lunch or I'm on someone's property and they're not home, I carry open.

Anyone else run into this ever changing dynamic everyday?

My dad pointed at to me that I probably shouldn't be wearing my gun when i'm working with stuff like the grinder and such. I generally apply the same reasoning to carrying while landscaping. For reasons of practicality, it might not be good to be OCing while using a weed whacker, but it may not be such a big deal on a lawn mower. It might be simpler to just have a pocket pistol.

As far as the customers concerns, i completely understand. I work with/for my dad doing audio/video/lighting installs. And his business tries to mostly cater to churches and the like. So, I constantly wonder the same thing. That being said I have only OCed in one church to date. The pastor seemed pretty cool about it. As did his son, who also found it important to try to announce it whoever was nearby. He thought it was funny. I didn't so much.

I think that I've rambled enough to get my point across somewhat. But yeah, I completely understand the concerns. My dad doesn't mind, but it's the customers that can be hit and miss and are not always easy to judge.

I'm lucky. I work for a guy that is a big A2 advocate and WWII small arms collector. He and I both carry around the property all the time. He's had a Fl CCP before we moved to Tn, and now Him, his wife and myself all have our Tn HCP's and we joke about being the Barham Holler Gang.

Can't OC in TX yet, and the company that I work for doesn't allow us to carry anyway for a number of reasons, some I agree with and some I don't.
My job (Oil Field Trucking) places me on many different peoples property every day (mostly ranches). I grew up on ranches and learned to always carry on them in case of a riled up critter... However, over the years a handful of oil field workers hunted and the like without permission from the land owners so now most land owners don't allow firearms to be carried on their property by the workers and most of the oil field companies have now adopted a "No Firearms" policy. This is one of those situations where the actions of a few have hindered the many!
Another reason my company does not allow us to carry is a holdover from a federal transportation law banning carrying firearms in commercial vehicles. That law is no longer in affect however and has been left up to the individual states carry laws. I think that my company (as well as many other trucking companies) need to re think their policy on this as our job is a very dangerous one with us often having to venture into dangerous areas...

An interesting note on firearms and churches...
We (the church that I attend) currently have a visiting pastor from Australia. Australia is very anti gun. He (Pastor Daniel) was talking with some people back home and mentioned that while in Texas he was shooting varmints. The people he was talking to were almost appalled and wondering "Who took him to do that?" and they were extremely shocked when he informed him that it was the pastor of our church!
Just for reference I go to a "Cowboy Church"....

I didn't realize that australia was anti-gun. I am sure that someone has told me before, but it's not really a common topic of discussion. But, that is amusing nonetheless. My friend was part of a foreign exchange program over the summer. He got to go to Paris, France for a couple of weeks and a kid of the family he stayed came and stayed here for a couple of weeks. They went to either Bass Pro or Cabella's one day, when the French kid saw all of the guns he called us fascists. I'm not sure who all is included in the "us", but I'm pretty sure he meant Americans in general.

Australia banned most gun ownership shortly after England did and the remaining ownership makes it very tedious for the owners to access their guns which, IIRC, must be kept at the local constabulary.

I hope whoever was with him explained to the little socialist is that millions of such weapons being in the hands of the civilian population makes our population anything but fascist and help secure our ability to keep it that way. But it sounds like the guy was just throwing out (now) derogatory political terms without understanding what they mean or what he was talking about.

Hope the family bought him a nice white flag with Obama's picture on it to take home with him as a souvenir.

I own my own business in a town that has a local ordinance requiring CC with certain exceptions such as in my offices. I do OC frequently in my offices when it is only me and staff there, but cover up or lock it in a desk drawer when customers are there. I error on the side of caution in not offending or upsetting my customers.

Another interesting oddity about Australia is that it is less than 20% religious, meaning less than 20% of Australians practice ANY religion whatsoever, yet prayer is allowed in school where the US is over 80% Christian alone plus all the other religions and we specifically prohibit prayer in school!!!
i know... off topic, I just find that one mind boggling and thought that ya'll might appreciate it!

I hope that you are being facetious... but in case you aren't, the issue of prayer in schools has nothing to do with individual states....
I do very much like the axiom that 'As long as there are tests there will be prayer in schools!'

Prayers ARE allowed in schools...they just can't be led by the fauculty and staff (government employees could be seen as pushing it on the students)...and they can't interfere with the learning environment of school (you can't have an all-day prayer event and skip class "praying" in the halls).

Student-led prayers that don't interfere with class schedules (before school, during lunch, and after school) are perfectly legal...anyone that says otherwise is misinformed.

I wasn't completely beding facetious. I do actually find it a little surprising. Our schools in my town have no problem with prayer by staff so far. How long that will manage to last, I don't know. But for now, the principal at the middle school is a good and Godly man. He's also not afraid of spanking students, because parents have no problem with giving him permission. I guess I just still live in a good place still.

I also apologize for steering the topic of conversation in a completely different direction.

My work takes me inside people's homes and businesses. Since I always CC my BUG, no-one is the wiser. When Texas regains OC I still plan to CC in these situations to avoid being prohibited from carrying at all by the home or business owner.

"On my own time however, I intend to OC wherever it is legal. Of course I will still CC my BUG except during times of sterile OC." He said wistfully...heavy sigh.

I find it hard work and OC with a belt holster because my forearm keeps getting scratched on therear sight. I carry a Ruger .45 Colt when working in the woods on my friends property in bear country. I was looking for a good "flap" holster to eliminate this problem.

I carry concealed wherever possible, as SC prohibits open carry, though my job often dictates that I leave my weapon in my vehicle (clothing, job site situation, etc). I open carry in GA, and when I'm at a military installation I check in my firearm at the security office.

"I love to open carry, because it just seems to put everything above board."

What that means is he likes the "respect" he gets because people are afraid to talk to him like they would anyone else on the street. People don't walk up to the bouncer and tell him you want to @#$% his girlfriend, but they tell plenty of the patrons. You need to be able to feel like a man without your gun, or you not much of a man and you shouldn't be carrying a weapon because your that jackass who shoots a guy for backing into your car and him yelling at you.

Meaning : Openly - without any trickery.

....it seems clear that this term originated in the gaming community. If card players keep their hands above the table (board) they can be seen to be playing fairly.
Now, if you're done whining and complaining about everyone else's discussions (see the "First oppertunity" [sic] thread), do you have anything useful to contribute?
