For those of you who are not paranoid of "outsiders" and "polluters", this is not the time to despair and turn on each other, or to turtle up and hide. It's the time to step things up a notch. We've been successful at the state level, even with a Democrat governor and legislature. We have two Democrat senators in Congress, now, and they are both afraid of being seen as anti-gun, even if they are. That means we are doing something right.

The key is going to be trying to find a way to make grass roots activism more effective at the federal level. Perhaps coordinating with other state-level organizations would have an effect. It's already been done in some cases, such as the pressure we put on Congress to look at the NPS ban.

Basically, we've got no time for whining or pouting. Work to be done.

I resent that remark. :p

But you're allowed in Virginia. You're one of the cool people

Agree!

Maybe us in the VCDL need to help MD get a "MDCDL" going since they are our neighbor and deserve the same rights we have as well. I know the people of MD want something they just don't have it!

All the "*CDL"'s, "Georgia Packing" and all need to get working together so we can storm this and come out ahead!

And plus we need to double, triple, and even quadruple our numbers too.

MD has an organization, I forget the name, but it's a hard road to travel in Annapolis. Sometimes people from MD come to VCDL meetings in NOVA to meet up with us, and to actually enjoy carrying their pistols for a change. It may take a while, but it's not out of the question that MD will someday become shall-issue.

But that's for the more distant future. In the meantime there are plenty of states with majority pro-RKBA populations that need to get that message to their congressmen. A grass-roots organization can do that. You're not going to turn a Chuck Schumer or anybody like that, but there are others you can work on.

Every state should have the equivalent to a VA-Alert email system run by a grass-roots organization. Perhaps a website with action items that is cell-phone friendly, etc., anything to boost activism.

We will probably playing a lot of defense in the next few years, but if we can build the movement in many states it will filter up to the national politicians and then we may be able to do some offense and actually get pro-RKBA bills through some day.

Start from where you're at, not from where you wish you were, and go one step at a time. Just don't despair and give up. Setbacks suck but they don't knock us out for good.

I don't post here often, I mostly just lurk and soak up information. My general outlook on life is that when I speak, others are learning and I am not. And at my age, I'm benefiting the world more by learning than teaching.

But I am 18 years old, and this was the first election I've ever voted in. I did not vote for Obama. I did not vote for McCain. The way I see it, McCain was the chugging steam engine to socialism, and Obama the bullet train. Regardless of your thoughts on the great "Principle vs Lesser of Two Evils" debate, I think we can all agree on what is being stated by the OP.

As I said, I am 18 years old. Summer after next I hope to be in the Marine Corps PLC, and plan to stay in the Corps for as long as I can before I'm given the boot. These will be very trying times, and it is now that we really need to prepare ourselves the best we can.

As a lot of you are preparing for a SHTF scenario, I guess I'll address my opinions on that first. I keep ARs as SHTF weapons, considering 5.56 is standard for both Military and Police, so all you need to do is hit a National Guard Armory and you're set for ammunition for decades.

If Obama, with the full support of Congress decides to go all out left-wing on us, the Dollar will devalue faster than the DM. Frankly, if your savings is in dollars, you can get screwed over fast. Better to have $20,000 in rifles and ammunition than to have $20,000, in a worst case scenario.

Stock up on weapons, and if there's ever any sort of Government survey, deny your ownership of any firearms. If it ever reaches the point where the Government is actually searching homes for weapons, then you should be opening fire, so up until then just don't acknowledge them.

As has been stated, if possible, work for cash. Paying taxes to fund immoral programs is itself immoral. The impending tax surges will be an Agorist's dream, so be prepared to barter things amongst eachother.

Remember, even Obama gave lip-service to the 2nd Amendment, and he couldn't have been elected without having done so. He never articulates his opinions for a reason: had he, the people would not have voted for him. I sincerely doubt he will support heavier gun laws, at least not in a first term.

Obama is a Clintonesque politician. He doesn't have real principles, socialist or otherwise, and says what he can to get elected. Once in power, he'll do what he can to get reelected. That means wreaking havoc on the economy by making people even more dependent on government handouts, and by raising taxes on those who actually pay them.

The American People still hold dear the right to bear arms, and Obama knows this. He's far too smart to try anything there. At least, that's what I've drawn from the man.

Some folks plans are pretty interesting.

WHAT WILL WE DO?? Alright....I have had all day to think.

I took care of family business ...I threw kettle bells around interspersed with AK drills to Christian Metal.....I stopped by the office just in time to see the last magazine we had go out the door to a free american in Michigan. I spoke....and yelled....and cried with those who called me. And there were alot of you. Everyone asking what to do...what to do.....

Here is what I will do.

Half of the American people are stupid.Right or wrong, that is how I feel about it. I can't fix stupid. But here is what I can do....

1). As far as I am concerned, I do not have a president. Obama (excuse me while I spit) will not get any support or respect or anything from me but disgust. That is that. We move on.

2). I will continue to do business as I have done for the past 8 years. My plan initially is to use my buying power to put as many magazines on the shelf as possible. When those run out I will get more. My connections and resources will make the Colombian Drug Cartel look like a bunch of altar boys. You want a mag...money talks.

3). I will teach you anything you want to know...anything. You want to know how to take over a building with a team? I will bring it. Sniping? Yes. Gunfighting at five feet? Of course. Fighting with knives? You got it.

I will add several classes to the schedule that will scare the bra right off Nacy Pelosi's scrawny chest.

4). If ammo runs low, I will cut the round count, but I will still teach you what you need to know and I will bring other nasty and dangerous men (both good ones and formerly evil ones) from the four corners of the earth to teach you what they know.

While the rest of america is castrating itself we will keep our "package" intact!

5). Infidel Media will plan to produce one DVD per month on subjects which will appeal to all of you from ComBloc Weapons to Guerrilla Street Fighting to whatever you ask for. As far as I am concerned, nothing is off-limits. Information cannot be controlled. Wait and see. We will make the edgy gun press look like a bunch of altar boys.

6). I will produce a website dealing with a warrior ministry so our Christian brothers can find the courage and the testosterone the popular church has eliminated. This will be inline with the Christ of Revelations 19:11 and not the soft manufactured Christ of the modern bland religionists.

7). I will continue to do what I have been doing for the last 8 years, and make it even worse. You think I have been contraversial and extremeist? No....stand the hell by..........NOW I will live up to those names.

This is the time for tightening the helmet straps not hand wringing and crying like a liberal sissy. To hell withthem and the ugly witch that birthed them!!
As our good friend Iraq Ninja posted -"We are not even out of the kill zone yet, and some of you are already trying to write up the After Action Report. Lets keep things real and not waste our time on "what if" or "how did we let this happen".

Stay switched on. Stay Frosty. We have lost this battle, but not the war.

I raise my glass to you my brothers.....until we are free once again.

You should speak up more often. Your words are wise beyond your years.

I feel compelled to add that your writing is light-years beyond that of your age peers. Home-schooled, perhaps?

"Half"?

By the current count, 98.8% of the voting public chose business as usual, in the form of the evil of two lessers.

Maybe he was referring to the ~46% who wasted their votes on a GOP nominee who couldn't win, since "oh, but he could never win" seems to be the GOP criterion for which votes are "wasted".

I stopped caring once the nominees were set, because that's when there ceased to be a difference.

This landed in my inbox today. From folks who have be behind the lines for decades. I think it is sensible advice except to add one should join liberty minded grassroot organizations there are nearby.
From Maryland Shall Issue

1. Where do we go from here? It's no secret that the pro-2nd fight took a serious blow on November 4 with the advent of the election of Barack Obama and the loss of several pro-gun Congressmen, Senators and Governors in their respective races.

As we said in the previous Update, the 2008 election was beyond our reach and it was time to get to work with boots on the ground activism to make sure that the election has no more adverse effect on our community than we allow.

Step one is for you to Join the NRA. Yes, some in our community have taken exception to some of the NRA's so-called compromises or less than forceful positions on issues. Regardless of all of that, the NRA is still the proverbial 800lb gorilla and is the best hope that we have to carry on the fight on the national level. Further, if Maryland gun owners are not active in supporting the NRA, we can not reasonably expect their support for us when it is needed here.

You can join the NRA for as little as $10.00 a year for the one-year Associate Membership or you can go the distance and take out the Life Membership for $1000.00 and pay $25.00 per quarter. Rumor has it that there are substantial discounts for joining while you are at gun shows. There is a Silverado Gun Show this weekend at the Frederick Fair Grounds. You usually also get into the show free with your new membership.

If you are already an NRA member, make a donation to the NRA-ILA which is the legislative wing that has the primary responsibility for maintaining our 2nd amendment rights.

Step two is to fire up the computer printer and start sending letters, preemptively, to your state elected officials and let them know where you stand on 2nd amendment issues. You must continue to plant the idea in their minds that anti-2nd bills are third rails...not to be touched. You can find your elected officials here (ETA: link broken).

Step three is to be an ambassador and advocate for the 2nd amendment. Remember that our community is under constant scrutiny and much of it is prejudicial. When dealing with fence sitters or outright opponents of firearms, speak rationally and factually. Educate yourself on the misinformation that they use and be prepared to counter them. Many times you'll find that they've just been repeating the misrepresentations they've been fed all of their lives and you may be just the one to change all of that.

Step four is to take someone shooting, preferably someone who doesn't fit the "middle aged white guy" stereotype. We can not afford to continue to portray the shooting sports, self-defense and gun ownership in general as the purvey of W.A.S.P. male conservatives. Gun ownership is a fundamental civil right and those civil rights belong to everyone. The longer we make this a Republican/Democrat or Conservative/Liberal issue, the greater a chance we have of it being used as a wedge, partisan issue that will work against us.

No, I went to a private elementary school, and went to middle school in Germany while my father was stationed there. I went to a public high school, but ended up getting my GED because I couldn't stand the place. Mark Twain said to never let schooling interfere with your education, and that's something I try to live by.

This is, I believe, the most important thing you mentioned. The unfortunate stereotype is that the only people who shoot (at ranges at least) are middle-aged white folks, rednecks and skinheads.

Frankly, this stereotype exists because it's really very true. I know of a lot of diverse people who own firearms, but only the people in the aforementioned groups seem to actually go shooting regularly.

I shoot at the NRA range in Fairfax, and tend to see Police, white guys and Asians. I think this is more of a self-fulfilling prophecy than anything else. The reason people don't want to go to the range is because they feel like they would be out of place there. The fact is, they would be, until they became regulars.

I've mentioned taking friends of mine shooting in passing before, but I think now I'll really start to press the issue. It's important that a person's first experience with firearms is from someone who knows to keep the weapon pointed down range.

I had a friend whose only time even seeing a firearm was his father's old .22 that didn't function. Took him to the gun show in Chantilly, and he had a really good time. When I asked about his reaction afterwards, he said he was really surprised by how small a presence rednecks seemed to have there. That managed to amaze him more than the Class 3 tables.

He also voted for McCain against his parents' wishes in the election. It was his first as well.

I'm doing my part. A friend of mine & my wife is afraid of firearms due to some life happenings when she was far younger. She sort of knew that my wife & I are into shooting at the range and such.

So last night I offered to take her to the range and give her a hands-on live demonstration that would only go as far as her comfort level would permit. She said she'd let me know what time she was available this weekend so I could take her to the range.

She voiced an interest to me in learning to overcome her fears and concerns about firearms. She was even more surprised to find out that I was CC during the entire conversation. Her exclamation was "But that has to be dangerous!"

I picked up a dinner knife and held it between us (she was sitting next to me at the table, wife across from me). I told her "Any weapon is dangerous in the wrong hands." At which point, I put the knife on the table. Then I asked her "How dangerous is that knife just sitting there on the table?"

Her response? "I see your point. It's the person & their intent that makes it dangerous whether it's a knife, gun, club, or fists."

I plan on taking her along the path in baby steps but with her having that realization, it hopefully won't be very hard. She was also genuinely surprised that OC was legal without a permit. I explained a few of the basics behind that to her. When we get together to hit the range this weekend, I'll have more information for her so she can better understand the firearm laws within VA.

Good points all around! I especialy agree with the idea of taking more people out to shoot. Everyone I work with either owns a gun or wants to, partialy because of my interest in shooting. We have pictures of guns and gun magazines all over my workcenter. Anytime someone from outside of the workcenter enters the space, they ask who the gun nut is, to which we reply "all of us". This is usualy enough to start the right line of questioning. I'm taking one guy shooting tomorrow. He's from Detroit and wants to keep his family safe. Not that it matters to me, but since ethnicity was brought up, he is an African American. I see quite a few females at the range everytime I go as well. We're doing something right here in Virginia. Now if only I can get Texas to follow. :)
