Hi,
This is my first post on this board. I've been lurking here for over a month getting a lot of good information from everyone's posts.
I purchased my first handgun last Wednesday - a Glock 19 along with a Blackhawk CQC Serpa holster. I first open carried on Thursday evening to the KFC on Lee Highway in Fairfax without incident. I was pretty nervous seeing as how this was my first time. I felt like the guy in line behind me was eyeing me but I think I was just being paranoid. I next open carried on Sunday at Amphora restaurant in Vienna again no incidents. We later went to Fair Oaks Mall but I didn't carry as I didn't want to push my luck with their no weapons policy. Later in the evening I open carried at Bloom. I feel more and more comfortable open carrying now. Because of my short haircut I wonder if people think I'm in the military or an off duty cop. I used to be frequently asked if I was in the service. My girlfriend says that no one even notices that I'm carrying a gun because of the flashlight and leatherman that I also carry. I think it's pretty distinguishable as a gun on my hip.
I'd also like to mention that I've never seen another person open carrying in Virginia, which I think it kinda interesting since this is an open carry state. I would have figured that I'd see at least one other person. I did once see a concealed carry on a gentleman at the IMAX in Dulles. I assume he must have been a police officer since it is Federal property. He was wearing a t shirt so there was no question it was a handgun from the printing.
I'm a new member of NRA and VCDL and I applied for my CHP on October 15th so I hope that it arrives soon. I got a call from the Circuit Court saying I entered my height as 5 (feet) and my weight as 5 (lbs), she new that I must have meant my height is 5'5" but she needed a valid weight. Anyone know if this means my CHP has been approved and being printed or if they need all fields filled out before tjhey can even start the processing? If it's the latter might this mean a delay in receiving it? It was my fault for not filling the application out completely. I'm just happy they didn't return the form saying incomplete or something. Just out of curiousity has anyone else made the same mistake?
