[align=center]Petition to Restore Rights Surges over 26,000 Signatures

In most states adults may openly carry handguns in public without any license.[1]] But not in Texas. Texas is one of only 6 states completely banning the open carry of handguns.

Since OpenCarry.org's billboard went up on I-35 in San Antonio,[2]] the online open carry rights restoration petition[3] has surged to over 26,000 signatures. And now a second billboard stands tall on I-45 in Houston[4] to educate yet more Texans and to focus the attention of the Houston Metroplex's many legislators on the open carry issue as they prepare to set up camp in Austin come January.

Early efforts by gun owners asking their legislators to review our draft bill[5]] have been enlightening - across the board folks find that their legislators are shocked to learn that the Lone Star state is among the 6 lonely states which ban open carry. Remarkably, Rep. Eddie Rodriguez (D-Austin)'s office has indicated while "Rep. Rodriguez is an advocate for gun control," open carry "makes more sense" than concealed carry.[6]

Most gun owners just feel that open carry compliments concealed carry, and in any event, is a right, not a privilege, especially needed along the Gulf Coast where natural emergencies can sometimes unexpectedly leave home owners and business people on their own to deter looting. ]

Accordingly, OpenCarry.org calls on the Houston members of the Texas Legislature to come to work in January prepared to conform Texas law to the Second Amendment's right to openly carry handguns.[7]]
