This weekend I was visiting a family friend. I opted not to carry because we were working in the shop all day (didn't want my firearm anywhere near all that metal cutting and welding).
His cousin and her husband dropped in for dinner. Turns out he is a deputy in a coastal county known to be anti-gun. (I didn't get his permission, so I won't give any more detail than that.) Turns out he had heard about me through the infamous memo. Also turns out he is very pro-gun and pro-liberty.
It was refreshing to find a LEO that didn't have that "us versus them" attitude. He was supportive, and related that he wishes his agency didn't frown on recommending gun ownership to the civilian population. He also wished me luck in my open carry endeavors.
Oh, did I mention that he is the agency's training officer?!
I hope he rubs off on his fellow deputies and his trainees. If half the cops were like him I think we'd be much better off and much safer.
