Is OC legal for anybody within the country in an OC State?

Hi,

I live in Upstate NY and have my CCW license without any restrictions. I realize that NC doesn't recognize a NY license and vice versa since NY is in the top 5.

Being a lifelong resident of NY, Open Carry is very new to me. I read the rules and believe I understand them. The one thing I'm not sure of is if this applies to anybody within the state at any time. It seems like anybody can carry a gun openly within permitted areas regardless of where you live. I'll be visiting Raleigh so it sounds like I can keep my pistol with me in the car as long as it is visible at all times.

Please let me know if I am correct. If that's how this works in NC, it probably works the same for all OC states as well but I would first check on this website since it has a lot of great information.

Thanks,

Alex

You are correct about NC. Not sure about what other states though.

Side note- How did you get a ccw in NY? Former or present cop? I lived in Syracuse for 7 years and only heard of cops getting approved for one.

Hi.. Maybe Onondaga County was stricter than Monroe. I applied back in 95 and after 6 months got it with no problems or issues. My father got his several years before me but has the target practice restriction. I did specify that I am a business owner so maybe that was it.

Open carry is not against the law in North Carolina therefore all people, even non-residents,can open carry as long as you follow all otherNorth Carolina Firearms Laws while you are doing so. Just be sure that the firearm does not become concealed while you are open carrying and follow all laws on places that are off limits and you will be fine.

Alex , You will be fine and dandy open carrying all over North Carolina & Virginia on the way down. Don't think about it in Maryland which is a socialist republic you will probably cross through. Your weapon should be unloaded & in a locked case when you pass through the Peoples Republic Of Maryland.

A lockable brief case on the front seat works well for me. A combination lock is best, as when a cop turns the safety lights on you reach down and spin the combos. Your weapon is now in a locked case, which requires a warrant to search (unless someone is dumb enough to consent).

Maryland has lots of violent crime. The liberals like the "safety " of gun free zones and ignore the crime it causes.

i agree with the rest of the guys, i would lie to add to make sure you do travel with it the correct way. dont want to get hassled for transporting a weapon across state lines. that would be my only worry here.

I just completed my CCP test and will receive my certificate in about a week. I'll then go to the Sheriff's office to get the permit.
I'm thinking about open carry butI want to do it legally. Are the open carry laws different from the concealed carry laws?
