Newport News Open Carry

My wife and I went to Plaza Azteca last night for spicy stuff with pepers washed down by artificially sweetened tea and I open carried my Kimber Pro Carry. It was cold out side so I had on a leather jacket but as I entered the vestibule of the restaurant I removed it and of course my 45 was clearly visible.

None of the staff or the partons blinked an eye. I have open carried in this eatery many times and no one has ever said anything at all about it. We crunched our chips and woo-hooed about how hot the jalapeno peppers were. Slurpped our tea with the fake sugar. All the while I intentionally sat "strong side out" and only garnered a few passing glances. The staff was all smiles.

I also open carried in the Deutsch Ecke and again it was a "non-event". We sat there signing to each other und es gibt Deutsche gesprochen. Actually I open carry just about everywhere when the weather is nice. I have a low tolerance for cold so by this time of the year I'm bundled up and therefore often am concealed carrying.

Any other time though, I usually carry open and have had no trouble so far here on the peninsula. That's the way it should be.

So the point of this report is that there is nothing to report! (unless not being hassled for enjoying the rights enumerated by the State and National constitutions is a point of merit). Just checking in

Like 6L6GC, I too OC (weather permitting) everywhere that it's legal, without reaction. Lowe's, Home Depot, Farm Fresh, Dick's, Bass Pro, BankofAmerica, True Value Hdw, Hallmark, Red Lobster, to name a few places.

be careful about open carry in Red Lobster. They have a corporate policy against it, BUT, I do it anyway since the one near our house isn't posted. No one ever says anything about it and since there is no signage I can always plead ignorance and offer to "take it out to the car" thus avoiding trouble. Pleading ignorance for me is not a stretch. All I gotta do is act naturally.

However one time, half way through our cheddar biscuits and flounder about 7 of Newport News' "finest" came parading in through the front door. I gulped and tried to act "cool" (what ever that is) and started mentally rehearsing my responses. My pulse rate was certainly elevated.

But, thankfully, they went to another table and escorted two young men out the door in handcuffs. These two was with about 12 other youngsters all decked out in their prom clothes. Cumberbunds, fake flowers, cheap perfume, rental shoes, etc. The girls had on their prom gowns and extra studs in their face(s).

I have no idea what the issue was with them but as the wife and I was going to the parking lot all the cops and cruisers was still in the parking lot. The cops were milling around with clip boards and chatting it up with each other. One of them clearly spotted my 1911A1, but other than noticing it, did/said nothing.

So, all's well that ends well. Still, I would advise caution in the Red Lobster.

Where is that place by the way? I know there is a German restaurant on Jefferson but I thought it was called something else (I can't remember). But it's next to a garden shop or something. Could be the same.

We've had a couple of dining outs in that Plaza Azteca, always had a great time!!!

The Duetche Ecke is in the Warwick Shopping Center at the intersection of Warwick and Denbigh Blvds. It is of course back in the corner, hence the name. The other restaurant of which you speak is Das Waldcafe which is located at 12529 Warwick Blvd.

I also appreicate your help with my German. Do you speak German as well? I was trying to say: "there was German spoken" so that was the Es gibt part. I'm in the first semester so mistakes in my German are not at all rare.

Just got back from a plesent OC outing with my buddy that just got back from Iraq. Glock 19 on my hip, Glock 21 on his.We ate at the Red Robin at Patrick Henry Mall, then walked around the mall itself for a bit. All in all a good time.

Tomorrow we are goin to the courthouse in hampton to turn in the CHP paperwork, wish us luck.
