Spose I should chime in here, 25 years active duty from VietNam through Desert Storm. Didn't do a thing in Panama, nor Grenada, don't figure I missed much. But to all my brothers (and sisters) in arms, past, current, and future, God Bless you all. And; Keep your powder dry!

USAF Retired 1981 - 2001, Supported Grenada, Panama, the first Gulf War as well as Operation Southern Watch. Communications/Navigation Systems specialist on A10 Warthogs, F-4G Wild Weasels and MH53J Helicopters. Thank you to all members past and present for what you have givin me. Also I want to thank all the civilians out there for giving methe best military in the world to be able to serve in. When those civilians thatprotest us for what we are asked to do, all I say is "I helped to defend your right to protest, so you are welcome!"

Edit: Thanks for the thread Alex!

To all our brethren in arms, I salute you.

To those who have previously served honorably, I salute you.

And most especially to my brother, who still serves, and who has seen action in both the previous Gulf War and this one, I salute you.

Neither one. I was a Pulse Acquisition Radar Repairer and, later on, a HAWK Maintenance Supervisor. I was always assigned to Direct Support, but spent almost as much time at the firing batteries as the site crews.

Most fun I ever had was at the NAMFI on Crete back in the seventies. Got to see a Nike Herc, a HAWK, and another missile get launched. Of the three, the HAWK impressed me the most.

For many years, I had a picture that I took just as the tail fins cleared the launcher. Wish I still had it.
I was on the Fire Control crew. I got to actually fire one once, at White Sands during OSUT out of Ft. Bliss (a name that will live in infamous irony in my world).

It was fun. It was also a pleasure to serve my country, although my service during that time so pales in comparison to others. I am embarrassed to accept any recognition for my "service".

Being there for the nation during peace makes the admiration of those serving during war all that much stronger and sincere.

Thank you all so VERY much. I can't even begin to convey or express my gratitude.

U.S. Army Infantry, shot in the head in Sadr City, Iraq in 04 and medically retired. I served 3 1/2 years before that and have been busy with getting back squared away after the injury.

Eight years Navy, Submarine Sonar and Navy Security. Thanks to everyone who serves/has served. Thank you to everyone who supports our men and women in uniform. Few things are more difficult than maintaining composure in the face of someone who has no experience, but is perfectly willing to spew hatred.

Six years active duty Navy in the 80's. Thanks to all who have served and their families for the sacrifices they made in supporting them. To all that are serving in the current conflicts please know that the vast majority of Americans are thankful for your service and are proud of the work you have done despite the convoluted news coverage we often see.

Aegis Fire Controlman on the USS Arleigh Burke (DDG51). Three years into my first enlistment. I'm pretty sure it'll be my only enlistment, but I did my time honorably. Never been in any real conflict, though we did shoot at some pirates in Somalia. I realy just wanted to have the perspective and experience of serving in the military. A lot of people talk about the government and the world in general without any real perspective. Now I've seen a lot more of the world than I ever did as a civilian, and I'll do at least one more deployment before my six years are up. Without giving up too much in the way of opperational security details, we're supposed to circle Africa on our next deployment, so I'll be a golden shellback. All in all, I've grown a lot because of the Navy, but it's not the life for me and my kids.

U.S. Air Force, 1973-1979, Military Firefighter. California ArmyNational Guard, 1987-1992 Mechinized Infantryman. I never saw any combat. The only deployment I was ever on was to L.A. for the Rodney King riots in '92. 13 days of boredom.

USAF C-130 pilot. Most of my deployments were between Desert Storm 1 and 2, so I missed most of the excitement.

I deployed as a staff officer in 2006 to Bagram, Afghanistan. This was my first experience with "open carry" :) The following year I attended Combat Skills Training in preparation for another Afghanistan gig (with more "outside the wire" work), but my slot got cancelled.

My experiences in 2006-2007 have given me the utmost respect for for our individual soldiers and Marines, and the hardships they must endure. However, my experiences have also destroyed whatever respect I might have had for the US Army as an organization/institution. This only magnifies my respect for the individual soldiers and the B.S. they have to put up with. (My experiences with Marines have all been positive, buttoo limited to draw any conclusions about the Corps as a whole.)

Keep on winning hearts & minds over there, and kickin' a$$ when necessary.
