Nevada and LEOSA

I plan on visiting Nevada in June. I will be carrying under LEOSA credentials. DO any of you have any information concerning visiting LEOs carrying in this manner. I would like to open carry part of the time, but I realize that this particular law governs only concealed carry. Thank you for any insight

I do not know much about theLEOSA or other laws applying only to law enforcement, but I do know that Nevada law allows anyone who can legally own a handgun to open carry without anypermit.

AFAIK, CC is covered for Retired LEO under HR218 as noted in the SFA CCW FAQ page. As mentioned, OC is normally ok in Nevada. You may wish to contact local LE where you intend to visit if you want their take on former LE carry.

More to the point, how many states CAN one person visit in one short month? You have asked this in just about every state forum here. Who are you and what is your intent?

My intent is truly honourable. I for the first time at age 49 in June will be getting married. This is our honeymoon trip. A scenic road trip visiting friends and certain sights. Almost the entire month. That should be enough for that question. As to me, I'm a SC state commissioned officer who for the last 25 years have put away some very bad people. Some are on the street again as our penal system can't seem to keep them. I do not know the location of the all. I do not feel comfortable going unarmed. It being summer in the South And West, I believe that open carry will be more comfortable. I do intend to be discreet in urban areas, etc. Now, does that satisfy your curiosity.

Yes to OC being more comfortable in the SW. You may wish to contact LV officials if you are going in to Clark County. That jurisdiction seems to handle the topic of OC and CC differently than the rest of our fine state.

They shouldn't. Nevada law forbids localities from regulating firearm possession.

If you look at the states where he has posted his question, they follow the route of Interstate 40 from NC all the way to CA. So it's not unreasonable of him to ask.

FYI in summary:

Nevada is a defacto open carry state and you may open carry if you choose. If you open carry in the high traffic tourist areas of Las Vegas you may have a visit from Metro or, Casino personel may/will ask you to leave the property if you open carry in any casino. If anyone in authority in any private establishment asks you to leave you must leave under Nevada's trespass law.

There is no restriction on having a firearm in your car, open or concealed as long as it is not concealed on your person (unless you have a permit).

Out of State Carry Concealed Weapon Permit Recognition

Effective Oct 1, 2007

In accordance with Senate Bill 237 passed by the 2007 Nevada Legislature the State of Nevada will recognize the following States' CCW permit holders:

Alaska, Arkansas, Florida (added January 3, 2008), Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan (added May 9, 2008), Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee and Utah

This law allows holders of valid permits from these states to carry a concealed weapon while in the State of Nevada. The permit must be in the possession of the issuee at all times while carrying a firearm.

You may carry concealed in Nevada ANYWHERE except:

Buildings at the airport,
Schools (including colleges) and child care facilitys,
Public buildings (that means Government buildings) that are posted or have metal detectors.

That includes casinos, bars, clubs, restaurants, ANYWHERE. They may ask you to leave for any reason, or no reason at all, and, under Nevada's trespass law, you must leave.

You may drink whlie carrying. The BAC limit is 0.10 (DUI is 0.08, when they lowered it to get federal highway money they did not change the limit for CCW).

Thank you. We are not certain about Vegas yet. We may go to Reno/Tahoe Area. Depending on time. We do not drink or gamble. Only look at thescenes and take in a fine meal and maybe show. Definefely a coat and tie in those establishments.

Justbe carefulto stay on the Nevada side if you are armed. California laws are kinda tricky.

I cannot speak for Reno/Tahoe, but in Vegas almost no one wears coat and tie anymore. Very few places require them.

LEOSA applys equally in California. Shouldn't be a problem.
