You will be exempt from the stupid public gathering clause we have here in GA. Might want to check out www.georgiapacking.org for a lot more indepth look at GA and carrying and consider becoming a member of GCO www.georgiacarry.org best 15$ you could ever spend to help expand our right you fight for every day :celebrate

Are military retirees, whohave an ID card and retain their titles for life, "(3)Persons in the military service of the state or of the United States; "? If not, why? I carry a weapon just as much while teaching at a high school in Georgia as I did in over 22 years of active duty.

Unfortunately, I would think not, much as we would be better off having a few people who spent an entire career serving their country.

You retain an ID card (which helps with medical benifits and shopping) and your title (which can get a free cup of coffee as some establishments) but there aren't many Privates who are going to come to Parade Rest when addressed by you and there are no military duties which you carry out. And 'in the service of the state' pretty much implies performing some sort of duty.

If only LEOSA extended to our services as well as our public servants. :) But, I guess we can't all be priveleged servants :X.

§ 16-11-130.Exemptions from Code Sections 16-11-126 through 16-11-128 (a)Code Sections 16-11-126 through 16-11-128 shall not apply to or affect any of the following persons if such persons are employed in the offices listed below or when authorized by federal or state law, regulations, or order:

(1)Peace officers, as such term is defined in paragraph (11) of Code Section 16-1-3, and retired peace officers so long as they remain certified whether employed by the state or a political subdivision of the state or another state or a political subdivision of another state but only if such other state provides a similar privilege for the peace officers of this state;

(2)Wardens, superintendents, and keepers of correctional institutions, jails, or other institutions for the detention of persons accused or convicted of an offense;

(3)Persons in the military service of the state or of the United States;

etc....

I don't think so, it actually states retired peace officers and does not state retired military members. As Fallschrim stated the code say in the service of, so I believe you would still need to be doing some type of work for the military still. Then again I believe that a military member is a type of Peace Officer, especially MPs or SFs.

Not a lawyer, just my $.02

It's still kind of hard to understand why military personal don't have to have a Georgia Firearms License to carry when so many of them never carry a weapon while in the military. 22 years, three months and 22 days of active duty and I carried a weapon a total of zero days.

If you're in military service to the state by being a member of the Georgia State Defense Force you can legally carry without a GFL almost anywhere EXCEPT when you're doing ANYTHING for them:

7. POSSESSION OF WEAPONS:
a. GSDF personnel when in uniform or serving out of uniform as an official representative of the GSDF are prohibited from possessing weapons on their person, in vehicle or in baggage when on a Federal or State installation. Violations of this policy can, in event of personal or car search, result in arrest.
You can't even protect yourself by having a gun in your vehicle while at a weekend drill, but the state says you can pretty much carry anywhere :shock:. If that isn't ironic I don't know what is. Kind of like Obama being anti-gun except for the ones being used to protect him. :banghead:

I think the military is anti-gun, I mean when i take an health assessment for my PHA(physical health assessment) there's 2 questions about guns. If you have any, then if they are kept unloaded and locked up. If you answer no to the second question as i always do, the small briefing/overview at the end suggests keeping the unloaded and lock for injury prevention purposes. Which is the opposite of reality as we all know, how can my wife or myself prevent injury from a burglar/rapist/murderer if we have no way to defend ourselves.

It ridiculous! Some comanders do not allow their subordinates to carry off duty off base even if they have a carry licence.
