York County man charged with assault, impersonating officer

YORK COUNTY
A 34-year-old man has been charged with impersonating a police officer and assault and battery of a woman he directed to pull over to the side of a road.
John M. Cannella, of the 90 block of Rowe Drive, was arrested Wednesday by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office with help from Poquoson police, according to a news release.
A woman told authorities that she was driving in York County on Oct. 30 when a man driving in a vehicle alongside directed her to pull over, the release from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office says.
The man told the woman he was a law enforcement officer, then touched her in an inappropriate way, the release says. No other details of the exchange were released.
The sheriff’s office investigated the complaint and charged Cannella.
