I went to the Holocaust Museum in DC yesterday for the first time. Aside from learning the history of what happened and all of the horrible atrocities committed against people not considered true Germans I wanted to see how history may or may not be repeating itself. Nationalism was such a success because the German government was so good at conditioning their people. The Natzis concentrated much of their time indoctrinating their youth in order to create a new generation of mindless people. It was also a way for the German government to reach the elder generations who they were not able to "educate". They told their youth to turn on their parents and teachers if necessary but to always be loyal to the nationalist movement.
Books that did not agree with the nationalist movement were confiscated and burned. Radio stations were forced to be more fair to the government. Guns were banned and confiscated. Non-aryans were labeled and demeaned. Anyone that stood up for them were quickly demeaned and stripped of their aryan status.
Words...from printed in the press, on the radio, used by Hitler, taught by teachers or police were very instrumental in how non-aryans were perceived and treated.
The museum was very educational. When viewed by comparison to today's current events it made it very interesting. History does repeat itself. Although we may never see nationalism to the extent that we did with Germany....we do see many of the same tactics taking place. From censorship, gun bans, youth indoctrination, subliminal language and fear tactics. Our current Democrat and even Republican officials have learned a lot from Hitler and his regime. It's just too bad that they didn't learn to AVOID Hitlers tactics. Instead they have learned to use them for political advantage. And now our country is in a government induced comatose and our people have become willing slaves to government desire. Sad but true.
