Recently some petitioners in Gloucester attempted (unsuccessfully) to oust 4 county supervisors who had been playing fast and loose with the rules. After losing their bid, a local judge assessed/fined the petitioners to pay some of the supervisors' legal fees. Although the story is more complex than I have laid out, Judge Parker's ruling has alarmed many people concerned with 1st amendment rights here and in other states.

Senator Norment and Delegate Gear are introducing bills to prevent further government intimidation of people petitioning for redress of grievances. On lobby day, those of us represented by these people should commend them on their proposed legislation. (They get a lot of complaints; it doesn't hurt to praise them when they get it right!) In fact, even if you aren't represented by them, encourage your delegates and senators to support this legislation.

VCDL and other 2nd amendment groups can't afford to be hobbled by petulant judges. We need the First Amendment to defend the Second!

    Egregious ruling by Judge Parker!

The 1st Amendment and the 2nd Amendment are indeed interdependent.
