I check the Local Sales Network www.golsn.com frequently, and a lot of people who advertise their guns for sales, even private sales, say the buyer must prove he's a TN resident. Is there some restriction on selling guns to residents of other states?

Federal law bans private transfers between residents of different states - however, last time I read the statute, the buyer is the only person to comitt a crime, and further, only criminally liable if he takes the gun across state lines - see 18 USC 922 for yourself, it;s a little complicated.

Of course, an out-of-state buyer could be legal simply by finding an FFL in his/her home state willing to do a transfer.
