The Career Alliance building consists of the MTB (Michigan Talent Bank)/The Michigan Works, MRS (Michigan Rehabilitation Services) and isposted (No Firearms) on the main entrance doors. Other than the posted doors, I'm not exactly sure of the policies there.

If the building is owned/maintained by the State of Michigan then 123.1102 should apply, at least for non-employees. The last time I was there I mentioned the invalid/illegal sign on the doorper 123.1102 to an employee and she basically told me-in a very nice way-that I was full of sh!t.

Received this nice letter from their attorney. Apparently he has visited some website I have posted on. I like his unnecessary warning, as if I would patronize an anti-gun corporation like theirs.

Good afternoon Mr. Jeffs,
I am the attorney for Career Alliance. Ms. Goble forwarded to me your inquiry about Career Alliance's prohibition on guns at its sites. Career Alliance is not a governmental body but a non-profit corporation incorporated under the laws of this state. It has the same property rights that are vested in every other private person. As you have pointed out on at least one web site. "Private property rules over-ride state law in regards to firearm possession."
While I understand your prior confusion on this point you are now aware of Career Alliance's status and are on notice not to appear on its property carrying any weapon. Should you do so you may be charged criminally.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Doesn't he mean you will be asked to leave and if you don't you could be charges with trespassing only.

I think that is what is is saying, I now have been warned. But I told him I don't frequent anti-gun business. We need to find out if the building is owned by the state or county. Mr. Goldsteins email: petergoodstein@hotmail.com

Did you give your boss a copy of the handout? If not, print a copy found here:

Update: Walmart has new "CARRY" policy.
According to a phone conversation I just had with Chris Carter, corp. "policy" maker; He said after consulting with the company attorney's, they have determined....

"We will continue to comply with the laws of the state, but if a complaint is made the person will either have to cover the gun or remove it from the store".

So I asked if my understanding of this policy is..
"Open carry is ok if no one complains. But if a complaint is made I have to cover it up or leave the store".

He acknowledged and said yes.
So there you have it as I was told. Walmart's new policy is still which ever the way the wind blows at the time. So if you OC without a problem, good for you but keep in mind it may change day to day. In the Owosso superstore anyway.

Is this "leave the store" policy for a definite time-period? Say I go into the store, they ask me to cover or leave, and I come back in say 20 minutes (hoping the complainant is gone). Is this what they mean? Or is it for 1 calendar day? Or is it something where I could leave the store, go to my car, sit a few minutes, and then return (making the manager's job difficult, to say the least). I am not advocating this as a "nice" thing to do, just thinking. So, is there a notion of "time" involved with being asked to leave?

Well, that's the confusion. It's up to each store manager's decision. At the Owosso store I was informed I can no longer OC while in the store. That's what prompted the corp. contact.
His answer stands as posted, no negotiation.
So any future trips I make to the Owosso store will be CC or leave. And since I have been notified they may opt to just call 911 for trespass.... who knows?

I'd just inform them that all of my shopping will be done at their neighbor's: Meijer and Target. Between the two, you can generally get what you need (Most all you can get at Meijer, but sometimes Target has better prices).

So if I complain to the manager that someone smells really bad, even though they have a right to not take a shower, will they ask that person to leave as well? What if they have really scary looking teeth, use your imagination from here...

This may be a battle that needs to be fought. I know the confusion is not just in Owosso or Michigan. I saw a thread in Utah where people were very confused as well.

Perhaps someone that has authority to speak on behalf ofall 4,400+members of OCOD might take an interest in reasoning with this company. Unfortunately though, this only leaves two candidates who are also very busy...

I see no mention in the US Const. listed "The people have the right to eschew bathing, and the right to eschew bathing shall not be infringed";)

I was in a store in GR last summer, a man came in and as he walked by me, I could DEFINITELY smell his presence. I thought it was just me, as my friends think that I have an "insane" nose (I claim I can smell deer within about 30-50 yards of my position in the field) so, I thought it was just me being a little sensitive. About 5 minutes later, I saw the man being escorted out, with the manager telling him he could return when he "didn't stink". So, I guess my response is that some stores do remove people for not bathing.

Got this from Costco

We appreciate you taking the time to email Costco Wholesale.

Costco Wholesale is a membership-only warehouse club. It is not open to the general public. It restricts membership to a limited group of qualified individuals who agree to membership conditions. We have the right and the obligation to our members, to enact and enforce membership rules. The Member Service Employees at the exit doors are obliged to follow these rules. By obtaining a Costco membership card, our members agree to comply with the Membership Rules and the Privileges and Conditions of membership.
Costco does not believe that it is necessary for firearms to be brought into its warehouse stores, except in the case of authorized law enforcement officers. For the protection of all our members and employees, we feel this is a reasonable and prudent precaution to ensure a pleasant shopping experience and safe workplace. Our policy is meant to protect our members and employees in all warehouses around the world. This is not a new policy and we do not customize the policy for each individual city/county/state/country where we do business.

Our primary goal at Costco Wholesale is to keep our members happy. If you believe that our policy restricting members from bringing firearms into our warehouse stores is either unfair or excessively burdensome, or you cannot agree to abide by this policy, or you are dissatisfied for any other reason, Costco will promptly refund your annual membership fee in full.

Thank you,

Sue
