We do not ask customers to check concealed or open carry weapons where the state has laws governing this situation. Our signs refer to firearms that are being returned or sold to Cabela's.
If you are still having problems please feel free to let us know

Dear Jerry,
The Home Depot Customer Care is in receipt of your email. We appreciate you taking the time to email us. Our general policy is not to ban customers from carrying firearms on the Home Depot property in those states having a concealed firearm law, provided they are carrying the firearm in accordance with the applicable laws.
If the firearm is not concealed in accordance with the carrying permit (typically that means concealed and cannot be seen by members of the public), it is up to the manager based on personal comfort level to approach the individual directly and request them to leave the premises or to contact local law enforcement for purposes of having the individual removed. Thank you for contacting us.
Sincerely,

I heard this from a neighbor that that pony tailed guy you mentioned was born in Bath, MI and lived about two blocks from my house. His dad was a teacher at Bath schools. They moved to California in 1953 when he was 3 years old. The neighbor bought the house from them at that time and have lived there since. That ought to get the wife going.

The Career Alliance building consists of the MTB (Michigan Talent Bank)/The Michigan Works, MRS (Michigan Rehabilitation Services) and isposted (No Firearms) on the main entrance doors. Other than the posted doors, I'm not exactly sure of the policies there.

If the building is owned/maintained by the State of Michigan then 123.1102 should apply, at least for non-employees. The last time I was there I mentioned the invalid/illegal sign on the doorper 123.1102 to an employee and she basically told me-in a very nice way-that I was full of sh!t.

I'll call tomorrow. It seems they are a government agency. The only thing I have a question on at this time is do they have a daycare or K-12 school in the building. If so then perhaps they can ban firearms. If not they can't unless they are a private non-profit org.

Below is from their website. Underline is mine.

They do offer daycare services (3-5yo) and IIRC it's not located in the building/property. No K-12 that I'm aware of.

The gal I spoke to had no intentions whatsoever of hearing me out on the issue.

ETA:At the time, I did not want to push it. After all, they are trying to assist me with job placement and I really don't want to cut my own throat here. If not for that I would have contacted them by now to determine exactly what the deal is with the signage.

Oakland County records department has a sign that states "Attention CPL holders: All firearms must be unloaded..." It appears to be the only public entrance. Isn't this a public building also?

ETA: It is part of a complex, and shares walls with other departments. One has to do with corrections. There are frequently inmates being transfered between buildings just outside the door.

Even GCSD transfers inmates within the building in areas that are not "secured areas" where you are legal to carry.

And I thought "Attention CPL holders: All firearms must be unloaded..." was only seen at gun shows. :)

More than once I've arrived to see inmates in the parking lot, once apparently un-escorted. I'm supposed to leave my firearms in the car here? What are they thinking?

Received this nice letter from their attorney. Apparently he has visited some website I have posted on. I like his unnecessary warning, as if I would patronize an anti-gun corporation like theirs.

Good afternoon Mr. Jeffs,
I am the attorney for Career Alliance. Ms. Goble forwarded to me your inquiry about Career Alliance's prohibition on guns at its sites. Career Alliance is not a governmental body but a non-profit corporation incorporated under the laws of this state. It has the same property rights that are vested in every other private person. As you have pointed out on at least one web site. "Private property rules over-ride state law in regards to firearm possession."
While I understand your prior confusion on this point you are now aware of Career Alliance's status and are on notice not to appear on its property carrying any weapon. Should you do so you may be charged criminally.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

This is what I wrote back.

Thank you for clarifying my inquiry. This is what I wanted to know. One of our members thought you were a government agency and therefore preemption might apply.

As for your notice of carrying a weapon in your facility rest assured I don't patronize anti-gun corporation, regardless, I respect private property rights even though some companies don't respect mine.

I called Kohl's corporate number to inquire about thier firearms policy and was sent to their loss prevention department. They told me that they, Kohl's, does not have a corporate policy regarding firearms but that I should check with my local authorities for firearms regulations.

I think we need to go after chain restaurants that don't serve alcohol. Burger King, Wendy's, McDonalds, Subway, places like that. If we could have printable proof from different corporate big shots that OC is in line with rules at places like that, it would be a great way to encourage people to go out and OC. I've never been kicked out of anywhere but Hungry Howies in Glendale, but still, it would be nice to have pocketable proof for stubborn managers.

I personally find it better to ask for forgiveness than permission. Now, if we run into problems at a specific location, then fine, let's get their position on the matter. Otherwise, why stir up the bees nest?

Some Mc D s are wholly owned garnishee just uses and pays for same . BK only owns name you own everything ,don't do it there way highway and you own a lot of stuff you cant do anything with . I agree. Asking corporate fordocumentation that allows carry (OC or CC) on their properties may instigate a need/requirement for them to turn their properties into CPZ's. However, as Michigander suggested, it would be nice to have "etched in stone" documentation fromthe corporations proving lawful carry to the anti management.
