I Open carry all around fairfax and often go to gmu. Is it legal to drive and leave my gun in my car?

Are you a student, faculty member, or staff there? Definately not, per their rules.

If not, it is probably still not legal due to the Virginia Administrative Code section they impose. (Sorry, I forgot where I bookmarked it. Google-fu is weak & slow tonight.) There is debate on the legality of the VAC but it seems nobody wants to be the test case on carrying or having in your possession or in your vehicle.

Lots of us are uncomfortable leaving a firearm in our vehicle, dure to the possibility of theft. YMMV.

stay safe.

The admin code does NOT say you can't have a gun outside the building, including in a vehicle.

What is the worst charge GMU could hit you with if caught and not a student/staff member?

Trespassing? (and would you have to refuse to leave after be told by the police to make that stick)?

And I think they'd have some pretty serious hoops to jump through to charge trespassing (well, they could charge anything, but you know what I mean) on public land while not breaking any laws, or even the VAC.

My wife tells me that earlier in the week, a female GMU student was sexually assaulted at a bus stop on or near the main campus. The description of the attacker was a black male wearing an orange hoodie. GMU is not even one week into the new semester.

The princess carries now.

Good for her. I bet there are a growing number of college students with permits also re-evaluating their decision to be disarmed while on campus.

Does that college carry bill in the general assembly have a chance of being introduced again this year?

The VCDL legislative tracking tool shows HB1656 as permitting full-time faculty; says nothing about staff or students. So I'd say the effort is scaled back but being worked.
