I was actually thinking the same thing. I was very impressed. I'm glad they took the time to develop it properly.

I'm impressed as well. Haven't had a chance to look over everything, but I registered for the forums...

I did notice that they say nobody can carry firearms, which in DC makes sense. How are we going to come across as law-abiding good citizens if we break the law? However, I think at the satellite marches it should be perfectly acceptable if not prohibited by law.

I started a discussion about it in the Questions sub-forum.

I'm wondering if I could handle the responsibility of organizing a Eugene/Springfield Satellite march...

Much more effective use of assets - time and money.
IMHO - their aren't such numbers willing to take an active part - not yet at least.

I support and laud both efforts but I sincerely think that referring to such a march as being a Million anything can leave us open to ridicule unless there were an honest expectation of 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 million participating. I can see the headline now on page 17 - Million Gun Owner March Makes Protest Flop - fields 987 packin' heat on the Mall.

Don't even go that each marcher would represent another 1000 - the pictures would speak louder than our words.

Yata hey
Just tell everyone there is a free box of ammo waiting for them in DC, that oughta do the trick. Seriously though, lets MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

In Calhoun County, Michigan, a small proposal in support of a new assault weapons ban was placed on the agenda, with a motion to pass. Nearly 300 people showed up to voice their opinions against it, AFTER the media had announced that it had been REMOVED. If that is any indication of the passion your fellow Americans have for their right to keep and bear, I don't think a million is out of reach.

I see several problems with an event like this.

1. Some BOZO will show up with an "empty" gun that is actually loaded, and the news cameras will home in on the incident as if another 9-11 occurred. "We've just received word that the authorities have taken down a man who was armed with a loaded gun ... we don't know how many other armed men are among this unruly crowd ... yes, sources tell me his weapon WAS loaded with armor-piercing rounds ... we can't confirm that just yet (but we CAN put it out there without repercussions!) ... our investigators are trying to pull up his criminal record (implying that he even HAS a criminal record) but police aren't cooperating now ... they tell us that they can neither confirm nor deny that this man was actually there to shoot the President ..." Oh yeah, the media would LOVE to be able to cover an event like this!

2. The leftist socialist media will seek out the biggest SQUIRRELS among the group and give them prime-time coverage. There he'll be, "Bubba Inbred" with his .50 Cal. manhood extender, talking all sorts of nonsense about taking on the whole world and yadda yada .. and the public will associate HIS insanity with every other gun owner there. They'll replay his 15 seconds of fame over and over again ad nauseum.

3. Do the math. On a street 60 feet wide with NO obstructions (parked cars, news vans, police cruisers etc.) and having everyone evenly spaced, each person occupying a 3'x3' area or 9 square feet, marching in rows of people 20 wide, the uniformly-spaced line of people would have to be over 28 MILES long to reach that 1-million man number.

No, I won't be participating in this one. It has NOT been thought out thoroughly.

You're right. This whole thing is barely a week old. Skip Coryell mentioned the idea only a week ago and it's taken off like wildfire, much faster than he ever expected, and this thing is swelling like a Tsunami already...

Because something like this has NOT been done before, how can you be so sure it's going to end in a media failure?

Your math isn't faulty, but your idea of how many "marchers" can fit in DC is flawed somehow. They had (supposedly) 750,000 people in DC for the Million Misled Moms March, and I don't think they stretched out anywhere near 20 miles long.

Look at the media coverage of any of the Open Carry events around the country. Some a little negative, but there hasn't been any huge media messes or public outcry against guns because of them yet.

The organizers are pushing for marchers to FOLLOW THE LAW. That means no guns in DC, but at the Satellite marches they're going to encourage it if not prohibited by law. This is gonna be the best Open Carry get-together yet!

...They're working on the details, stop being so pessimistic ;)...

That is a slick website. I like it.

When they get this off the ground and have a date scheduled to march in DC, I think I'll have to come up with a case of Miracle Flu and have to call in sick. Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket.

If I make it to DC for this I'll be the guy wearing one, two or possibly three empty holsters with a sign saying...

"My Rights have been denied"

If I don't make it to DC I'll participate locally and I WILL be carrying, loaded, as I still have a few rights left here in NH.

Soaccording to the facebook group message just sent out, Ted Nugent is playing at the march. Way to support the redneck stereotype. Can't they get someone, or a group, that's a little more... mainstream, non-country, non-hick? There have to be some (if not a bunch) of mainstream rock bands that are pro-gun. This march should strive to be NON-stereotypical because the media will play off that redneck stereotype like no other. If that happens, we're looking at a failure, not a success.

So according to the Million Mom March website, Rosie O'Donnel is speaking at the march. Way to support the loud-mouthed broad stereotype. Can't they get someone, or a group, that's a little more... mainstream, non-loudmouth, non-pushy? There have to be some (if not a bunch) of mainstream celebrities that are anti-gun. This march should strive to be NON-Stereotypical because the media will play off that loud-mouthed broad stereotype like no other. If that happens, we're looking at a failure, not a success.

...Gee, Rosie didn't hurt their march any, did she?...

Quit being so pessimistic. While I agree the redneck stereotype needs to be kept at a minimum, you can be sure this is not going to be some blue-jeans, gun nut, hillbilly, redneck rock festival. There's going to be LOTS of different speakers, and maybe even more than one band!

...One "redneck" rocker does not a march ruin...
