The "gun offender database is working" says Dixon

BALTIMORE -- [/b]Mayor Sheila Dixon took to the streets of Baltimore city Tuesday to check out how the gun offender registry is working after it launched a year ago. Kate Amara ReportsAnyone convicted of a gun offense in the city must register with and report to police. Every week, a task force and patrol units visit individuals in the database to crack down on illegal guns and the people who use them.Dixon went door-to-door with the city’s gun offender task force to make sure the strategy is working.“The purpose of the ride-along is to see how the program is working … say it is effective and helps them to stay on point," Dixon told 11 News.As of Tuesday morning, there were 472 gun offenders in the database, 270 of whom were incarcerated, 50 of whom lived outside city limits and 152 more that were out of jail and living in Baltimore. Several of those offenders were paid a visit by the mayor.“It was good to actually see it in action…and it’s working," Dixon said.11 News has learned that the program is working so well that a juvenile gun offender registry is set to launch.Sgt. Michael Wilhelm runs the task force and said of the 200 gun offenders who are out of jail, “Only three people were rearrested for handgun violations in over a year.""We’ve had other offenders locked up for various misdemeanor violations, which were dismissed or null processed by the court system. So, I think that speaks to the recidivism rate being quite low," he said.Dixon said she plans to lobby for two pieces of related legislation in Annapolis this session, one of which would reduce good time credits for gun offenders. The second would deny bail for gun offenders with prior gun convictions.

'Doesn't say the persons committed some violent offense with the gun... armed robbery, assault, attempted murder, murder, ya-da-ya-da... 'Just a 'gun offense'. In Maryland... particularly Baltimore... simple possession (outside of your dwelling) is a 'gun offense'. The free exercise of 2A is denied in Baltimore... and MD in general... always has been.

The only gun offense Marylanders should be concerned with is the continuing denial by it's government and LE apparatchiks of the citizensRight to keep and bear arms.

Open carry is forbidden... Concealed permits are impossible for Joe 'n Jane Average.

Nearly every concealed handgunI knew of whenI lived there was carried by women. None had 'permits'.They couldn't get a 'permit'. The only thing the State would do for them is issue a toe tag on the morgue slab.

The reason Maryland is the way it is... is that it is populated by sheep. The sheep keep electing the same breed of socialists year after year... decade after decade.
