Négy amerikai államban kezdeményezik a ny*lt fegyverviselést

I've studied Indo-Europeans languages for years, but Hungarian's a new one for me... here's what six months of study can do!

    ----

Four US states have begun opening up arms

If the proposals are accepted, Texas, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Arkansas will permit weapons carried in the open, and of the United States, only in two of the 50, New York and Florida, will the ban remain in place. These American states are the last six in which one cannot bear arms openly. The four new initiatives, however, indicate that the handgun will not be allowed to be worn hidden or in a case, essentially a measure for the reduction of crime. In the United States, hidden weapons - concealed under the clothing of the wearer - are more severely restricted by states. This latter prohibition is nearly complete, with Wisconsin and Illinois having a ban in force according to the National Rifle Association. John Pierce, of the organization Opencarry..org, in favor of openly carrying arms, said the ban on hidden guns goes back to the beginning of American history, when it was considered more dangerous (dishonorable?) than wearing one in the open.

Paul Helmke, the president of the Brady Campaign against Violence, however, is of the view that people should not be allowed to carry arms openly, or hidden, because "the more weapons there are, the greater the risk that one of those guns is going to be used in an armed conflict."

The fundamental goal is by allowing openly carried weapons - such as Ian McCarthy of the Texans for Open Carry group showed - it shows the carrier is not a criminal. He argues that a hidden weapon, however, is the preferred way for a criminal. "If a criminal has a gun, he does not show it to you" - he argues, noting that in the Texas summer heat, it is uncomfortable to wear concealed weapons.

Of course, weapons carried openly will not be permitted under all circumstances. State Senator Jeff Wentworth of Texas, for example, is opposed to allowing people to carry weapons on university property. "I think this is bringing back the days of the old Wild West."

    Darn tootin'.

People thought twice about who they accosted and how they treated people, because they never knew who might be the "wrong guy" to mess with.

Hmmm, I don't particularly recall doing an interview for a Hungarian newspaper.

This is actually a much better report than most in this country - and that's the shame.
