Douglas County CCW Question

The CCW application for Douglas County requires a notary seal and signature prior to submission... (per Sheriff's website)

"Prior to arriving at the Sheriff’s Office the applicant must sign the completed permit application in person, before a notary public; upon a sworn oath that the applicant knows the contents of the permit application and that the information contained in the permit application is true and correct."

However the application itself leaves no room for a notary seal or signature, nor for any evidence of a "sworn oath"...

What have others done in this case or am I reading too much into it?

I'm going to the Sheriff tomorrow with my wife to apply so timely responses are appreciated. I'd hate to drive to Castle Rock and find out I need some secret document.

I would call the sheriff's office and clarify that point. I just received my CCW permit renewal from the D.C. sheriff. It's the same form as for a new permit, but doesn't require the proof of firearm training. On the instruction sheet, the sheriff's office crossed out the part about needing to have the form notarized. I believe the sheriff's deputy who takes your fingerprints and photo will have you swear to the truthfulness of your application.

In the case of a renewal, the sheriff's office sent me another form which isn't on the website which is an affidavit of continued firearms qualification. That form has to be notarized.

I tried to reach someone that could answer questions but the officer that handles these had a full voice mail and was not available by phone.

We'll just have the form notarized at our Bank before going in and see what happens.

According to Bob Britton, the specialist at the County bldg, this is a misprint on the website. I showed up there with a notorized copy, Bob told me I didnt need it. Regardless, it doesnt hurt to have it done already.

OK the very cordial gent that fingerprinted and took pics of my wife and I stated that indeed the website is incorrect, and they will notarize it for you, for an additional $5.00.

Hey, let us know how long it takes to get it. I got mine last feb and it took two weeks. I'm wondering if they've got a backlog going like El Paso County did last year.

I am at 64 days as of yesterday. When I went in to get mine, Britton said they expected to use the entire 90 days. I guess they have had an onslaught since last September....wonder if that coincides with the run on firearms and ammo. Strange coincidence...

I was told four to six weeks for CBI and another four to six for federal checks.
(Although I believe the law states the permit will be issued or declined within 90 days max)

We were about # 385 so far this year in Douglas County.

November through December of 2008 they issued more CCW permits than in the whole of 2008, about 750 I believe.

So the County appears to be on track for 2009 1st Q permit #'s similar to all of 2008.

Makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

I made it a point to ask about open carry attitudes but he had no idea, he wasn't a LEO.

Incidentally, the security scan identified my small multi tool on a key chain (one inch blade) as "contraband" that I had to put back in my car due to the obvious threat to public safety with such a weapon. Kind of silly since I observed many pairs of assault scissors in the office just laying there out in the open and not locked up...wonder if they were registered?

got the call Friday afternoon, picked up the permit then. 85 days. The office at DougCO had a stack at least 4" tall with approved permits. Permits approving what our constitution already has......nuts. Regardless, just another option now. And the M&P .40c gets some full-time work.

Oh yes! The United States Constitution gives us the moral RIGHT to carry a gun but the state gives us permission that can be taken from us at anytime. I too have my ccw from jeffco and want to say thanks for the privilege of having a permit though i already have that right in writing, just look at the CONST.

Holy crap! 85 days!!!! There must be one helluva backlog for permits and NICS checks...sheesh!!! Glad you got it tho.
