http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=6960824&page=1

excerpt:
"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.

apparently mexico's problems mean that we the people aren't allowed to defend ourselves :banghead:.

Since they can't seem to police their own borders we have to do something? figures. Listened to a reporter record his crossing into Mexico and was not even stopped. Then he interviewed a US borderpatrol officer. The officer said his main priority was traffic coming into the US and they did not check many vehicles leaving. Duh! Guess we'll be expected to do it all again. :banghead:

I am suspicious of this story. The link appears to go to ABC's web site, but going directly to ABC News, I can't find this story, can't find a link to key words like "Cop killer bullets." The apparent author of this piece, Jason Ryan doesn't have anything on ABC News later than Feb 20. This is just the kind of thing Obama is avoiding: direct confrontation on second amendment issues.

Correction: I posted the above just minutes after the original post. Sometimes it takes time for stories to get posted to all of the servers used by the news organization. The linked article was not there when I looked for it on the date of the original post, Feb 25. Its there now and Obama has chimed in himself.

Holder made comments about reinstating the ban today in conjunction with announcing the arrest of over 700 perps in Mexican cartel raids but nothing reported across several sites as detailed as this interview report from ABC.

DONKEY tell us again how the dems are not a threat to our 2A rights and how this won't pass in the dem controlled senate so I can sleep tonight!!!!!

ETA: Hey, why don't we spend part of that POS $787 Billion liberal spending package on, oh I don't know, BUILDING THE FRIGGIN" FENCE!!!!!!!

Just read this on ABC, dog, linked in via Drudge Report.

Obummer is pro 2A, yeah sure. Holder said the ban is because Mexicans have assault rifles. Seems to me that if the Mexican's have them, American citizens should be allowed to have the m for personal protection.

$#!%#!%$%!% the prices probably just doubled.

This should go on VCDL and everyone should write to their Corruptasentatives.

Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico
"Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades,"

Uh, right. We need to ban certain types of semi-automatic weapons because the Mexican drug cartels have automatic weapons that supposedly came from the U.S. when American citizens can't just walk into a gun store and buy automatic weapons. Makes perfect sense.:banghead:

If the automatic weapons came from the U.S. it is because they were sold to the Mexican military with theapproval of the U.S. government and sold to the Mexican drug cartels bycorrupt Mexican military or police officials. Yeah, I can see how the AWB would help.

If they want to curb the violence in Mexico the most affective way would be to legalize marijuana and de-criminalize drugs. But...........

It's not about violence it's about control. Control, corruption, and tyranny. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Holder is an idiot, 'cop killer' bullets are already banned.
"I think closing the gun show loophole, the banning of cop-killer bullets and I also think that making the assault weapons ban permanent, would be something that would be permitted under Heller," Holder said, referring to the Supreme Court ruling in Washington, D.C. v. Heller, which asserted the Second Amendment as an individual's right to own a weapon.

Oh yeah, I've been buying those at 7-11s and running them to mexican drug cartels:banghead::banghead:

If anything cargo ships are sailing into mexican ports and selling automatic weapons out of cargo containers. The local governments are unwilling/unable or paid not to interfere.

Divorce agreement:

THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY WELL PUT, I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT'S BY A YOUNG PERSON, A STUDENT!!! WHATEVER HE RUNS FOR, I'LL VOTE FOR HIM.

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists,
Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together since the
late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me
realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many
years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship
has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will
not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms.
We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own
way. Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each
taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two
sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be
relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide
other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. We
don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to
the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take
our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah,
Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for
finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies,
Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys,
hippies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms,
greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and
Hollywood.

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to
invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and
war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault,
we'll help provide them security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam,
Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U. N..
but we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can
take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors.
We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll
keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure
you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to
Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.

We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty
your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history,
our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded
liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit
delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one
of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J. Wall, Law Student and an American

P. S. Also, please take Barbara Streisand & Jane Fonda with you.

It is a matter of semantics. Obama said he won't take away our guns. He didn't say that he wouldn't prevent us from buying more. Banning new purchases of guns and making purchasing ammunition very expensive and troublesome still leaves him able to say that he didn't break his promise.

Obviously he will (or at least try to) violate the spirit of his "promise" to gun owners and it will become yet another "it depends on what the meaning of is is" moment.

I honestly didn't think he would try this until after the mid-term 2010 elections. Clinton recognized and has publicly talked about the AWB being one of the primary reasons that dems lost the congress his first term. He has even said that he signed it against his better instincts as signing it was part of a deal he had to cut to get dems to pass other legislation such as the omnibus crime bill. After Obama's meetings with Clinton I thought he was going to walk away understanding this, hence my time frame prediction.

What has happened instead I think is that Obama sees the writing on the wall and expects that the dems are going to be brutalized in the mid-terms anyway for passing his desired huge pork laden spending bills and the continued dem policies that not only are not helping or going to help economic recovery but instead lengthen and deepen the financial trough. I think he is now thinking that he wants to get it shoved through in this congress before he loses his huge majorities in both houses.

I think that Holder's comments about the AWB were a trial balloon to see how justifying the AWB because of Mexico flies. I'll bet the DNC is focus group testing and polling its butt off on this issue to see this excuse plays. If they can make the Mexico rationale stick they don't have any need to make up stuff to counter the fact that the AWB did nothing to reduce crime levels. If the Mexico argument sways people in CO, NM and NV (which have all (D) senators) to, if not support the AWB, to at least not rise up like they did in 1994 and 1996 about it, it makes the pro-AWB won't get you kicked out of office argument more palatable to even blue-dog dems. Wish I could see their polling data ...

A good point here, we don't have the only border with Mexico plus there is a couple oceans to help smuggling in arms quite easily, I would think. I am upset, as any American should be, that we are always blamed for the shortcomings of other country's inability to police themselves.

If somebody doesn't put amuzzle on Holder to keep him from shooting off his mouth, I'm going to buy stock in S&W and Ruger.
