As he explained today on WRVA's 'Ask the Governor,' Tim Kaine will in fact veto SB1035:

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said today he would veto legislation passed by the General Assembly yesterday that would allow holders of concealed weapons permits to bring their hidden guns into establishments that serve alcohol.

"I'm very nervous about the public safety impact of that bill," the governor said on his monthly call-in radio show on WRVA in Richmond.

Obviously, he is no defender of the RKBA.

Why isn't he just as nervous about the public safety impact of all these guns being openly carried into these same restaurants? :banghead:

Timmy doesn't get it!

So, Timmy, how 'bout them attorneys already carrying concealed into alcohol serving restaurants? You know, the ones that DON'T need to have training in the safe handling/use of firearms?

HMMMM?????

He gets it, but just does not care. I've been surprised at the support some dems get on this board because they might appear to support the 2A because they give lip service to it.Chap Peterson voted no on the final bill. I do recall Chap getting some support on this board when he ran against the wife of Tom Davis for his supposed support ofthe 2A. Timmy is just an idiot and using language like "public safety" is just his way of attempting to cloud the facts.

It's called privilege. To the socialists of the world, it is the substance of life. Privilege. This was what and how the Soviet hierarchy enjoyed the trappings of wealth without laying claim to wealth.

Remember, they are the anointed ones.

It makes perfect sense to me - he didn't say HOW he wants to affect public safety. It's clear from his policies that he intends to increase crime by limiting the ability of law abiding citizens to defend themselves. By their fruits you shall know them.

Thanks for the link. I just dropped him a note explaining that as a deputy sheriff for almost three decades I feel SB1035 would actually make restaurants much safer place to be. A handgun in plain view is a target for anybody who might want to grab it and use it on somebody else in a drunken fit of rage.

Kaine's response is quite predictable. He is being consistent, since he's using the same "argument" he used the last time, but like most examples of liberal orthodoxy, it is based on emotions rather than facts, logic, reason or common sense. Note that he said the proposed bill made him "nervous" (a feeling state) without stating any realistic data to back up his preposterous assertion. As noted above, he has to maintain his bona fides as the top dog in the DNC. It will be even more interesting to see what, if any, the statements of our two new Dem senators will be.

These chumps don't care. Its all about whatever will advance their careers. This is why you never trust a Democrat who swears to be Pro gun. EVENTUALLY they will answer to the calls of the party agenda.

I sent this:

Dear Governor Kaine,

I urge you to sign SB 1035 into law. There may be situations where the concealment of a handgun is prudent, even when on the premises of a restaurant that is licensed to serve alcohol. Please read SB 1035 carefully.

For your reference, from the Constitution of Virginia:
Article I
Bill of Rights
Section 13. Militia; standing armies; military subordinate to civil power.

That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.

Kind Regards,
...

Appeal to emotion

"Do you think the wife of a domestic abuse victim with a restraining order against her deranged husband looking to beat her face in should have to disarm to go out and have a dinner? should she be held victim of wanting to save her life?"

He is a liberal and logical arguments don't work. Treat him like a child.

I'm in the "he knows better and is just burnishing his DNC creds" camp.

Suggested message,

"Dear Gov. Kaine,

Regarding concealed handgun permit holders in restaurants that serve alcohol, I heard your stance on the radio program. Some of us know better and we'll be telling our Democratic friends. Also, you might care to call Nancy Pelosi and see what she suggests."

(Nancy just came out with a public statement that the AWB will not be reinstated. Obama/Holder did not consult her before saying they would ask for it. Nancy said we should enforce the laws we already have.)

Because if truth be told they really don't want us carrying in restaurants either. It's easy for them to send a bill to Timmy that they know he'll veto. Then they can say well we tried for you guys. The truth will be told if we ever get a pro gun governor again.

The politics behind the events of the last day show how disorganized and tone-deaf the Obama administration is, at least in reference to the gun issue. You would think Obama and Eric Holder might have read some of the news about the TREMENDOUS demand for any semi-automatic firearm since the election. They also must know that a fair number of Dems had to state (lie?) that they were pro-gun to get elected this time. Pelosi recalls the huge backlash the last time the lefties pushed the so-called assault weapons and hi-cap magazine ban through congress, and she is canny enough to realize the massive response they'd see from the people if they tried the same stunt again.

Maybe Holder's remarks were just his symbolic way of letting the radical left know he's still thinking of them, while he moves on to more pressing matters. And the Mexicans can deal with their own damn crime problems. We've had to cope with the messes they've created for us in the last 30 years, so they've no room to talk!
