so i read the article and a few things struck me as completely contradictory to what they are saying.

"some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades,"

so i know i can't just walk into my local gun shop and get automatic weapons and greenades maybe they should check the serial numbers on those guns

i realize it is hard to admit that your own corrupt people are supplying cartels with the weapons purchase using goverment pasos to supply the fight against them . but i do belive that is why the mexican army came in to take all the guns away from the tijuana police last year .

i have also heard reports of mexican army driving on our side of the border , and escorting drug runners accross those reports were from a former US border patrol agent being interviewed by a local talk radio host in madison wis.

I thought the same thing pete... The "automatic weapons" comment. I said to myself. Hmmm.... As if!!!

But typical journalism.. as I've come to realize (after being mis-quoted myself) in publications. When it comes to guns, they are clueless.

I remember when Katie "the queen-bitch" Couric thought she had the SCOOP of the century declaring that (during the DC sniper fiasco) "as I understand it these rifles have grooves cut in the barrel that spin the bullet and make it extra deadly"

Um yeah bitch, thats why its called a RIFLE!!!

As far as the abc report. If they really have automatic weapons... um yeah... you can't just walk into a store in the US and buy those.. Sorry... The other possiblity is that they aren't automatic weapons the the news article author is WAY out over their ski's with a hysteria inducing story they just couldn't wait to run that is a factually accurate as OJ Simpsons court testimony.

OK, so I have a question--could someone, ANYONE explain to me exactly HOW restricting our right to purchase and own SEMI AUTOMATIC RIFLES which is exactly what the civilian models of the AKM the AR, the FN-FS2000 and so on are--could anyone explain to me exactly HOW in the hell restricting our ability to purchase these semiauto rifles will impact the violence in Mexico?

How ignorant can one person be? I mean seriously. How can these people sit in positions of power and yet have so little common sense as to not be able to understand that the cartels are using AUTOMATIC weapons which we don't have access to...

And for the record I don't give a good damn about Mexico.

they are afraid of these guns simply because they look mean--and that is the only reason.

I am so sick to death of the term "assault weapon"..what we have is a rifle--first and last. An assault weapon is what the military uses....I mean give me a break people.

The government have been looking for any reason to justify restricting possession of semi auto rifles. The scary part is that those who support this are actually serious that it will have an impact. Also they may persuade 5% of the population to support it based on the circumstances. But since when does the state actually help people?

Do the people who write this crap actually KNOW the slightest detail what they're spewing? No... and they don't care. Facts don't matter... it's the STORY!

I remember Couric's 'spin' on those 'deadly grooves'. I near blew my coffee thru my nose... 'n she'd doin' this with a straight face. Whutta airhead.

They churn out this kind'a disinformation everyday... and are pretty much unaccountable for it. This continous stream of BS becomes generally accepted 'lore' among the sheeple who never stop to processand evaluate this propaganda.
