Richmond police arrest two men on weapons charges

Two men were arrested on weapons charges after shots rang out at a Richmond restaurant yesterday.
Around 10:30 p.m., Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University police near Belvidere and West Broad streets heard shots fired outside the New York Fried Chicken Restaurant at 501 W. Broad St.
When they arrived at the restaurant, they found a large group of people and two cars taking off out of the parking lot.
One vehicle was stopped by VCU police, who found and seized a rifle in the car. They arrested one passenger, Calvin Mensah, 18, of the 1400 block of Vinton Street, for a weapons law violation.
Richmond officers stopped the other vehicle and found a handgun. They arrested Dejon Person, 18, of the 1500 block of Treehaven Drive, and charged him with carrying a concealed weapon. Person is being held without bond at the Richmond City Jail. He also was wanted on outstanding charges of robbery and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Police said no one was injured. They will continue to monitor activities in the area.
On Feb. 15, a man was shot in the leg inside New York Fried Chicken. City officials closed the eatery after finding health and fire-code violations, no business license and no meals taxes paid since April 2007. Police said the business reopened after several fines were paid.
